Does anyone ever pronounce the second “t” in “Tufts”?

It’s kind of silent.

OP - I’d throw Wake in there for consideration. It’s similar in many ways to the 3 you mentioned.

What’s the evidence for this from recent ED rates?

Tufts is a lot more popular at our school, if only because of location. Most kids don’t want to move to St Louis. And the Atlanta area is also less desirable than the Boston area.

Let me google that for you…
Ed decisions from 2022
Tufts: 35%
Emory: 32%
WashU: 34%

So obviously very similar but tufts is a little easier than the other 2. Also, just because tufts is more popular at your kids high school doesn’t make it more popular nationally and doesn’t make it more selective.

Actually, from WashU’s website it says 26% admit rate across ED I & II: https://admissions.wustl.edu/washu-360/early-decision-and-washu/

And Tufts 25.9% https://ivyleagueprep.com/tufts-university-class-of-2024/#:~:text=Overall%20applications%20increased%20by%201.8,early%20acceptance%20rate%20of%2025.9%25.

So it was even harder last year (2023) than in the year PP posted above. They’re all getting more competitive it would seem. Tufts will still be the easiest compared to Emory and washu but certainly not easy!

ED2 acceptances are significantly lower at all three, so if you look at the overall ED rate, it will be lower. For your purposes, just look at ED1, which has been said multiple times, will be over 30 percent at all three schools.

Yes so ED1 rate is as PP posted above: Emory 32%, WashU 34%, Tufts 35%

I don't know my kid got in to Cornell and Pomona but was WL at Emory (got in off the WL) and rejected at Tufts. Decided not to apply to Wash U as didn't want to be in Saint Louis but thinking it about for law school now lol.

I think you have to pick the one you like the best and go for it because splitting hairs as to where you have the best chance is probably not worth it. There’s enough randomness in the process that it’s hard to tell.

Agree that cwru and Rochester might be similar but a bit easier of an admit. My DC was looking at all of these but did ED to WM but we are in-state so the financial benefit to us of that was significant.

Not for ED1.

Yes, even for ED1 Tufts (35% admitted ED1) will be a slightly easier admit than WashU (34% admitted ED1) or Emory (32% admitted ED1)

Those numbers are all essentially the same.

Yes. That’s why I said “slightly” easier.

Obviously, if you live in Virginia, you’re crazy for considering any of these schools over UVA or William and Mary, which are both just as good if not better
