Nothing happens. All of the characters are insufferable. I don't know if I can stomach s2.

Everything about s1 sucked. 3/10 stars.

Season 2 is amazing because… it glorifies/rationalizes promiscuity and wealthy and hip millennials cheating on their spouses to fix their marriages. And the woman from parks and recs who is now like 40 years old is still so smart-mouthed and cruel all these years later! Peak television!

Do you two only watch tv/movies or read books where the characters are admirable and the goal of the story is to convince to be more like them? These people are not supposed to be role models or even sympathetic. The show is a commentary on how very wealthy people exist in the world today, how they interact with each other and with "the poors," how even with all their money and privilege, many of them struggle in fundamental ways with relationships and finding meaning in life.

The creator, Mike White, spoke in an interview once how something he noticed about wealthy people as he became one of them is that they are often in a state of existential crisis because their money resolves all their other human needs and all that is left is existential. So the show often shows the staff and other "regular" people at these hotels dealing with the normal problems of making money, getting or keeping a job, etc., and much of the conflict of the show comes from how those workaday pursuits bump up against these obscenely wealthy people who never worry about that stuff but are instead in a state of constant mental crisis because their lives lack meaning and substance.

The goal is not to make you like the characters or even root for them. It's cultural commentary.

This is excellent feedback, thank you for writing this.

It's so puzzling when people are upset by "characters who aren't nice, no one to root for". Why does everyone have to be *nice* and relatable? Sometimes viewers need to just sit back and observe. Seeing fictional characters behaving poorly on-screen and enjoying the acting and writing doesn't mean you are cosigning their behavior.

The point? To push aesthetically-pleasing smut onto the cattle class via a "viral" and "award-winning" show. Cheating, cucking, degeneracy, drugs, prostitution, promiscuous sex, murder, and marrying for money... what a sharp and ENJOYABLE series! I bet you totally see yourself in Aubrey Plaza. How original.

I mean, those things are fun to watch on television. Do you not watch other tv?

There's always Hallmark - or whatever the more Christian version of Hallmark is now.

Right, it's Upstairs/Downstairs, Downton Abbey, etc. but in more exotic locales.

My 8 yo thinks the whole show is about people pooping in suitcases. We were laughing and debriefing the show at home and she asked about the show, we said a few high level things and then about how it rapidly spiraled downward.

Haven’t seen any creative writing come back from school in a different shock & awe style yet…

Though memorable moments form Kindergarten way back was a kid farting in class.

You were attacking posters on the S2 thread for the show. You are really invested and might consider just stepping away. You don't like White Lotus even though it's popular. I don't like Yellowstone even though it's popular. I just don't go in the Yellowstone thread. Problem solved.

Who bought HBO and spiked up the costs and forced a bunch of sports channels on me?

I just started watching this show. I’m on S1E5.

Armond kind of reminds me of Lalo Salamanca from Better Call Saul. Clean cut, nice suits, the mustache, dapper and charming, but with a significant dark undercurrent and twisted way of getting what he wants.

I do not like Rachel. She’s playing the victim like her marriage happened to her, but she was a willing participant in marrying this man and his family. She already knew what they were like before marrying him, so I’m not understanding why she’s acting so surprised about his actions during their honeymoon. She is so beyond annoying.

Quinn is one of the most annoying characters on the show. Is he part midget? He has tiny short arms, like a T rex. He always acts stoned and clueless, highly immature. He looks like a 20-something yr old midget but acts like he’s 5. He is so gross to me.
