Question...I'm a bit of a newbie. My 2014B just got a callback. Do they call everyone who hasn't already gotten an offer? Or do they whittle it down prioritize some and select from there? I just want to level set expectations with my boy.

Was your offer for the top team? If not somewhere, somebody rejected the offer or backed out and they going making offers to fill spots. Sounds like moving is happening from team to team.

Not an offer, just a call back for additional tryout. I don't expect DS to be a top team, and am fine with that. I expect its for the lowest teams, just didn't know if they call *everyone* back or select few. His preferred position is goalkeeper and from what I could see of tryouts, that is a tough position to shine. I also felt bad because he's been playing 7v7 and didn't know 9v9 positions and buildouts, so this is a pleasant surprise. (Lol...listen to me...everything I have learned about soccer has come from watching my son's practices)

If they haven't posted about a whole other tryout date added via social media/emailed about it then it's a small group or individual call back.

Thank you! That makes sense.

Heard they had a few back out, but either way- take a call-back! That's always a good thing for your child.

It's tough to find goalies. At that age, my son was called in for an extra tryout as a goalie, when we hadn't even registered for any tryouts.
My other son's travel team does not have a goalie on its roster and is using guest players from other teams.

It is tough being a mom of a 9 year old goalie. I've had to have a few conversations that just because the other team scored, that he didn't fail his team. There are 6 other players and if they kept the ball at the other end of the field, there would be nothing for him to do. I also remind him that he was first picked to be goalie by his rec coach because he had the best focus. He loves it but man alive is it nerve-wracking for Mom.

I saw a kid at that age crying as the other team came back against him in the 4th quarter. I tried to explain it was because the other goalies had him as a defender.

The rest of the team had to all fail for it to go in the goal. It's never the goalies fault.

His relationship with his defenders has been fascinating to watch. Their trust, communication, and appreciation of each other has really grown.
