Any one else's scalp itch after coloring hair?

The tea tree oil shampoo by red ken soothed my itchy scalp.

Just had my hair colored tonight, I generally always get itching of the scalp for a few days after. I decided to try aloe Vera gel and it worked! Instant (and I mean instant) relief! I just rubbed some in my hands and massaged into my scalp. My hair was dry. I used Caribbean jack but imagine that real aloe would be even better.
I also had gold bond medicated powder ready to try if the aloe didn't work, but I never ended up trying. Might be worth a shot since it's a powder and relieves itching. Good luck ladies!

I have had the itching and intense pain combined for several days to 6 weeks after salon products were applied. I had the stylist apply the sugar mixture and while this provided immediate protection it did not continue. Within 24 hours after the first washing the painful itch started. I too had the same reaction with laying my head down to sleep seemed to cause the most pain. It wasn't until my roots needed touch up that it stopped. This was enough to tell me to stop with salon products and try switching to a non toxic brand. My scalp seems more sensitive to alcohol products and I get the same itchiness just from those now. I recommend no alcohol based products while you heal or in the future. There is a product I used called Tints of Nature that seems very friendly to the scalp. However I only tried the semi permanent version because of the no PPD's in it. Take care all of those who fight the grey.

Add sweet n low packets to your hair dye mixture. Works like a charm. I forgot to take some for my hair appointment today so I am feeling the itch

My colorist uses Schwarzkopf. She has been using their high quality products for over 20 years and never had an issue. I have dark brown hair and began going gray in my twenties and currently have my hair colored every 3 weeks. She usually does the roots and occasionally the full head. She shampoos very well twice and applies a conditioner. I also do not go in without letting my hair go unshampooed for two or three days. She says the natural oil in hair is great for the hair and scalp. I get a few tiny pimples on my scalp but never have an allergic reaction or itching.

I am glad to know that someone else experienced the same thing after sleeping on my newly colored hair. I woke up and the area where my head was on the pillow was itching like crazy.
i never expected to find someone else say this! It helped to bunch up my hair so that none of my scalp touched the pillowcase! I thought I was crazy!

It's terrible that after doing beautiful highlights and treating myslef all I can think about is shaving my head so the itchiness would stop!

Or, you can finally admit you're old and embrace the gray.

haven't colored my hair in over 12 years
It's healthy and shiny and I'm not using chemicals on my body b/c I fear getting old.

You women are so silly.

I would love to color and highlight my hair, but the last time I had it done at a salon my scalp peeled off.

At this point I am only using henna at home. When I lived in non-DC I was able to find a salon that used "orgnanic" color--which was bascially less harsh. Haven't found that yet here, but it looks like I either need to embrace the gray or embrace henna.

I'm allergic to Redken permanent and I know others who are too. One friend of mine wound up in the ER in anaphylactic shock after having her hair colored. I just get a bad rash on my ears and neck - but my friend said that was how it started with her.

I mentioned this to my hair stylist after 13 years with her dying my hair. She immediately was apologetic and told me to remind her next time I was in so she could add sweet 'n low to the dye as she mixed it. She said she had no idea why, but this was a well known trick among stylists to help negate the itching sensation. So of course I looked it up online when I got home (how I found this board) and found out that the ph of sweet 'n low negates the ammonia in the dye and stops the scalp from reacting. Try asking about this before your stylist starts mixing your color next time!

My scalp itches after using Paul Mitchell coloring products . The solution is to mix the dye with artificial sweetener. I rarely color my hair and forget on Saturday and am suffering today.

it doesn't matter what you paid for the haircolor you do at home if it has ammonia in it, then look for some other company to use.
