Any one else's scalp itch after coloring hair?

i dye my hair at home and everytime i do the next day the itching starts.. I was using a color safe shampoo but that only makes the itching worse so i changed back to a regular apple shampoo and hoping that might take some of the itch away.

Whole foods have a line of hair dye (I am forgetting the name), and while a bit pricey ($17), it may be worth a try. Less chemicals in them.

I have Lupus. Starting to gray and I decided to go with an Organic hair dye. I went to a professional salon to get it colored. Worst mistake ever. After an hour my scalp got so irritated. It lasted about over a week. It was so painful. My hair is black and where the gray was coming she highlighed them a ugly brassy gold color. I have no idea how im going to fix it. So afraid to color my hair again. Ughhh!!! What should I do???

Mine used to itch and I found two things that made it stop.

1. As others said, make sure your scalp is "dirty" - you need the oils to protect it. Its says so on most boxes.
2. I stopped leaving the cheap conditioner that came with the kit on my hair for long. Turns out some of the reaction was to the cheap conditioner, not the hair dye.

I just colored my hair a dark brown and my scalp is itchy whenever I color my hair a dark color this happens but, when I color it blonde I don't have this problem. What should I do?

I have the exact opposite problem, my scalp burns and itches if I do blond highlights or very light brown...but no itching/etc if I dye it brownish/darker. Annoying...

The couple days after dying my hair, I only use conditioner, whether deep conditioning or regular depending on how badly my scalp is flaking and how much it's itching. And every three days I use shampoo with my conditioner. I don't really focus as much on my strands as I do the roots and scalp.. Massage the conditioner in as much as you deem necessary (couple minutes) and then let it sit on the scalp for a few minutes (1-3).. Unless your strands are really dry, I don't really focus on moisturizing them as much.. Since dying my hair, head & shoulders and other dandruff shampoos have not really worked..deep conditioners have been a big help

Yes. My hairdresser does this and it definitely helps.

For how many days does the itching continue? Does repeated shampooing -- over & over -- help? I am going crazy -- had roots dyed and highlights.

I know this is a really old thread - but put sweet n low in your hair prior to coloring. Works amazingly!

Try Olia brand hair color! Finally a hair color that does away with the itching and burning I have put up with for years! I tried this about 6 months ago because I had a coupon, and I will never use anything else!
