Trying to get a refund for something you didn’t buy there? Yeah, you can get arrested for that. It isn’t drama. It just is.

DP
Sure. Are you asking for anyone getting arrested for "trying to get a refund for something you didn't buy there," or are you restricting the request to certain items or monetary value?

And will you admit you are wrong, once the citation is posted?

Trying to exchange an item for an item of equal value that is basically the same as what is trying to be exchanged at a store that sells both items.

And sure, I will admit I am wrong if you can produce such a comparable incident.

+1. OP this is fraud and people in lower ses areas get arrested for this everyday. My very poor cousin was one of them. Her scenario similar in that she was returning to Target something that was not purchased there. She would buy Tide washing powder from some discounter, for like $5 for a huge box or maybe it were stolen (she said she bought it). She would then return it to Target for an exchange, saying she bought the wrong scent. Target processes these transactions like returns to make the inventory right. So when she did the exchange for the new Tide she got a receipt. The new huge box of Tide was like $30. She would them return the new box of Tide to another Target and get a gift card. She would then sell the gift card for half the price for cash. She did this one too many times and got arrested walking out of Target. Target definitely considers what you were attempting to be return fraud. That's exactly why each store has their own sku's for items. So maybe you had no criminal intent, but surely you can see how it is wrong and not beneficial to the store you are returning the to. Imagine if everyone did what you were proposing? YMMV though.

No I'm simply repeating the action I originally proposed that had people claiming I could be arrested. If other posters have moved the goalposts in the interim that's not on me.
Anonymous
PP what you describe could not be the goal of my scheme. I was not asking for any compensation from target at all, one box of size 2s for one box of size 3s. I am unable to think of the way to have that be anything other than a diaper exchange that does not hurt target in any way.

So you aren't the person who wrote "Citation of this ever happening to any person anywhere in the United States"? Because that is what my response to, and what you responded to.

You can read it right above here.

Yes. And all of this is in response to my op, where I describe a desire to attempt to exchange an item for another item of equal value at a store that carries both items but not the store I purchased them from. You can read it at the top of page 1.

Sorry that was unclear. I am BOTH OP and the author if the citation post.

Well, hey, if you aren't the person I was responding to who initially asked for a citation, then you can ask someone else.

I was interested in that conversation. My offer was to them on those terms.

Good luck.

Great. Crosspost.

So you asked for a "Citation of this ever happening to any person anywhere in the United States" in response to "Trying to get a refund for something you didn’t buy there? Yeah, you can get arrested for that. It isn’t drama. It just is."

But now you want something else? Or did you misread what you were responding to?
