I really feel like this is a truly victimless crime. Target will put the box back on it's shelves. This is nothing like the link pp posted. I assure you I am not trying to exchange used diapers. It is a factory sealed box that has no damage. This is not a dress I wore without taking the tags off. No one has really been able to ar ticulate to me the harm target would suffer. I have called the store and they said they have special barcodes so I'm going to end up just going to the ups store today but the only thing that would have happened to target as a result of this is me buying 150 bucks worth of other stuff while I was there. |
It’s not that Target would suffer “harm” or necessarily lose money by your one action this one time. But it’s a dangerous mindset. Like I said earlier, imagine if everyone tried to do this when it was convenient for them. The store can’t plan either what to order for inventory and what to sell, leading to more things going unsold or marked down. It’s just not something that it would ever occur to me to do, because it’s wrong and I don’t feel that another entity should have to atone for MY mistake. This is exactly why they have separate barcodes, btw. |
So, if you are so convinced you are right, why not have this conversation with the Target employee? Be upfront and explain to them they have nothing to lose by accepting your item, even though they did not sell it. let us know how that goes. |
I've done this before but not at Target. My son was in a size 3 diaper at 4 months so I had a bunch of boxes I received as gifts in sizes that were way too small. I returned them to Walmart and got store credit and bought the correct diapers. I doubt Target will exchange them, though. They wouldn't return items I'd bought three weeks before, even with a receipt, saying they'd gone on clearance and they weren't in their system anymore. Walmart will usually return anything. |
Target will give you more money for the return than what they pay wholesale to stock their inventory. So they would lose money in this deal. Not victimless at all. |
Just take them to Nordstrom. They will take anything back. |
I am surprised you see this as the lazy route. I order from amazon precisely because I don't want to go to Target. As others said, it is incredibly easy to do an Amazon return and, for me at least, it is easier than going to Target. But if you prefer it, no harm in trying I guess. I don't see it as morally problematic since you are just trying to exchange, but I could see why they wouldn't want to do it. |
The harm is that you are WASTING their time. You are taking the time away from an employee who should be processing someone else’s return, not to mention the person who has to restock the item. Are you usually this clueless??!! |
I returned 4boxes of Amazon diapers to Toys R Us. Easy peasy. |
If only you ladies cared as much about helping those living in poverty or saving the environment as you do about making sure Target is ok!
I went to Target to return LEGO DS received for his birthday. For 2 of them I had gift receipts but for the 3rd the receipt I had wasn't a match. I said to the guy "Oh, I guess they didn't buy it here." He said "Let me scan it. If we sell it I can take it and give you a gift card for it." They carried it. I got a gift card. As far as I can tell Target is still thriving as a retailer. |
Seriously they are paying those cashier's to be there all day |
Gotta tell you, if everyone that does this is upfront about buying it elsewhere, then I couldn't care less. I'm also capable of caring about more than one thing at a time. You should try it out. |
You can return stuff to Amazon at Whole Foods. |
Right. Because have the morals to not commit fraud clearly means your a despot in all others aspects of ones life. It’s just sleazy and if you’re so lazy you can’t return to amazon which is far easier than going to Target, it’s just sad. |
What you are proposing to do is called theft. You could literally be arrested if you try this. |
