If you were opposed to circumcision for your son but did it anyway, how did it go?

Wow, just like the uncircumcised men! Do you really think you're adding to the argument by posting such stupid comments?

I asked male friends what they thought--I have a lot because I work in a male dominated field. Almost to a man, they all insisted that it should be done--for cleanliness, to look "normal', etc., so I caved. I was glad my regular OB performed the procedure. She is Jewish and an excellent surgeon. She assured me that they use numbing cream and that they cry more because they are restrained than from pain. It was over quickly, it healed quickly, he looks perfect. If it had to be done, I couldn't ask for a better outcome. No catastrophes, just maybe unnecessary.

Fucking idiots. Every one of them. One day they will regret it and your poor mutilated child will cry because he had no choice in the matter.

Don't like hearing this? Don't like it when someone tells you that you mutilated your child? THEN DON'T DO IT. Pure and simple. This is a cultural practice where people knowingly perform surgery to mutilate a baby's sexual organs. You should be arrested and thrown in jail. Utterly sick. Why are you so obsessed with the size and shape of your poor newborn baby's penis? Poor kid.

So very happy that my sons have their complete penis and that they don't have parents like you to reduce it to a deformed stub.

(If you disagree with my use of the word mutilate please invest in a dictionary).

I understand why people do this for religious reasons - just as with female genital mutilation, it is a cultural practice.

But the weird thing about the US is this pseudo-science used to justify butchering your children's genitals! All stemming from doctors whom themselves were circumcised, of course. In Europe or Japan no doctor would recommend genital mutilation as a matter of course.

+1,000,000. I wish the people in favor of cutting their child's genitals would only try and step back and look at how cruel and unnecessary this practice really is. Try looking at this cultural practice as an outsider. And read up on the absolute lack of supporting evidence too.

The naming is nice for all the relatives. The bris certificate is always good to have, cause, we'll. you never know! Also, do you plan your son to have a bar mitzvah? The rabbi may not let him have one if he hasn't had a bris. He may not be able to have a Jewish wedding if he doesn't have a bris. Are you okay with all of that? Maybe even talk to a rabbi if you are having issues with the medical part of the bris. Good luck.

What? Is the rabbi going to ask him to drop his pants? My son had a bar mitzvah and the subject of whether he was circumcised never came up. I'm not sure what you're talking about.

Oh the drama! I truly doubt her "mutilated" child will cry. Boo hoo!

You obviously haven't been with a man before. A deformed stub? Your fat ass needs to get out more often.

+1. A circumcision cuts off a piece of skin. The penis is left intact.

If rates of circumcision among infant boys continue to drop in the U.S., it could lead to billions of dollars in added health care costs and increases in sexually transmitted infections among men, according to a recent study by Johns Hopkins researchers.

Studies link circumcision with numerous health benefits: the procedure is associated with lower risks of urinary tract infections in babies and young boys, and reductions in men’s risk of contracting HIV, genital herpes and human papillomavirus (HPV); it may also help reduce the odds of penile and prostate cancers. By reducing the burden of sexually transmitted infections among men, it may also help keep more women infection-free as well.

If circumcision rates were to drop from the current 55% to 10%, urinary tract infections in baby boys may rise a whopping 212%, and in men, HIV infections could increase by 12%, HPV infections by 29% and herpes simplex virus type 2 by 20%. In women, dropping rates of male circumcision could increase cases of bacterial vaginosis by 18% and low-risk HPV by 13%.
