Don't be fooled. Mostly Chinese fake news. They have more problems that we have.

+1 Why do you think they all want to come here to go to college/university?

So why do we attract scientists from all over the world to our research institutions? Why don't they go to China instead?

There's this pretty big thing called freedom and freedom of thought/speech. It exists here, but not in China. Have you forgotten about the doctor who tried to alert people about COVID? Remember what happened to him?

In some of the videos you can see kids standing to the side and just watching. Those are the normal kids who don’t get to star in videos. The kids with the basketballs are a well known traveling troupe of performers, akin to Harlem Globetrotters but composed of small kids. That isn’t a random class of kindergarten students. Do you actually think this is healthy for small kids?

The Chinese don’t make viral videos of the rural kids living in poverty and being raised by their grandparents.

In China the rural kids living in poverty still get a vastly superior education and opportunities for uppward mobility than the kids living in poverty in St Louis or Appalachia.

Somehow there are thousands of Chinese crossing the Mexican border just to get in the US; we yet to see thousands of Americans lining up for the Chinese citizenship

That is not the true. Many the Americans want to immigrate the China. Everybody knows this. In point of fact, the China Daily newspaper says it is. How you not know this?

And yet here we are, with the US being the most advanced country in the history of planet earth. We have the best technology, the best universities, a great system of governance, a huge amount of real freedoms, silicon valley, wall street, NASA, hollywood, the US dollar, and the world's greatest military.

This is like tucker carlson talking about how amazing the subway system is in Moscow.

China is an awful, poor, over-populated country compared to the US by a LONG shot. The economy is country by the government - i.e., the communist party picks the winners and losers.

Sorry, I didn't even click on OP's link, but I'm not afraid of some video showing chinese kids wearing uniforms, eating vegetables, and exercising.

China is protecting their kids while corrupting ours. It is so ridiculous. TikTok is banned in China. The government doesn't want any form of western made content reaching Chinese people and they censor content further for children under 18. So Chinese can only use the Chinese version of TikTok called Douyin. You can only make a douyin account with a Chinese phone number so foreigners can't get in on douyin either.

And Chinese is limited screen time for kids. It is 3 hours of video gaming per week. Some gaming platforms are moving toward facial recognition so kids can use the account of an adult. According to MIT even further controls have been enacted this fall. "Essentially, this is a cross-platform, cross-device, government-led parental control system that has been painstakingly planned out by Beijing."

The rules are incredibly specific: kids under eight, for instance, can only use smart devices for 40 minutes every day and only consume content about “elementary education, hobbies and interests, and liberal arts education”; when they turn eight, they graduate to 60 minutes of screen time and “entertainment content with positive guidance.

How much is an education based on rote actually worth?

This is a discussion for the education forum.
But I do think some rote memorization is needed.

Tell me you don’t know Chinese demographics without telling me you don’t know Chinese demographics. China is having a population implosion. They don’t have enough people to outshine anyone. But thank you for the laugh!

Why are Americans so insecure? You’re arguing China is better off because of its attentive children? The Chinese live in fear. Being attentive and following the rules are essential.

But go ahead. Live in china. Have fun.

There is truth to both perspectives. The schools here don’t mess around. The parents, students, and teachers all take education seriously. Education means the core skills, not endless fluff about “wellness” and inclusion. Excellence is celebrated across the whole community.

On the other hand… the schools tend to be pressure cookers with little time or interest in individual expression or creativity. They are quick to sort kids into high achievers or…other. Their approach is very formulaic and has a lot of rote learning.

For these reasons Western international schools are very popular/prestigious where they are available.

That kind of atmosphere stifles creativity. If you look at the tech industry, the most creative and dynamic technology is US made.

It seems like you are praising the very schooling that by government fiat is prohibited from looking at (or even mentioning) its own ongoing and recent atrocities. "Valuing community" in this context is possible when you can define some within the community as inhuman or without civil rights. the tight control of information and thought goes hand in hand with flagrant censorship.

There are wonderful things about China, and they come hand in hand with terrible ones. When you praise one, you are accepting and praising the other, which naturally follows from the first.

That is silly way to look at things and how we got to this dismal place in the 1st place. Thomas Jefferson, James Madison and George wasington bought and sold people, ran prison camps as their homes, raid and whipped human beings for not doing their bidding. They also built the built the foundations of the most ethical and liberal society known to human kind. and we arent any better than them- we also do terrible things or allow them- our entire economic system is predicated on the abuse of labor far far away, including Chinese factory workers.

We destroyed an entire fledgling liberal democratic government and installed a monarch b/c one of our allies didnt want to have to pay the local populace its fair share in oil revenue! the migrants fleeing the golden triangle- they are fleeing violence that is fueled by the Hollywood and Wall Street partiers snorting cocaine to have a good time. If casual use of speed would be eschewed, the heroin trade alone doesnt make enough money and we can grow and tax our own cannabis- it would hollow out the cartels. how many of us are going to stop doing a line here or there b/c it. gives money to dangerous drug cartels? NONE. We are also the source of a lot of good, we insist on a bare minimum of human rights in many. places, we do give asylum and new chance at life to 1000s, we give more in food aid than any other nation. teh entire world order depends on teh United States and we have created afar more peaceful and prosperous state of affairs than any empire that came before us for all of our faults. Both things can be true, besides the Creator, nothing is faultless.

Impossible. They don't have the racial diversity we have - it's our greatest strength.

Our greatest strength is not racial diversity, it is ethic and cultural diversity (which immigration vastly improves). We might get more racial diversity as a result of that, but race itself is not a strength in and of itself. The fact that we are getting new ideas coming into the country is the strength.
