Ideally, a husband would have shared about his same-sex attraction with his wife before they married, and allowed her to make an eyes-wide-open decision about whether to join him on this journey. But too many times, he didn’t — either out of shame or denial or the false belief that marriage to a woman would somehow make his SSA go away.

There's no way to pray away or therapy away any of the LGBT letters. There is no way to help him "surmount" this. It's just who you are. It isn't a moral failing and there's no way to cure it with prayer or therapy. The help he needs is to be encouraged to accept that he's a homosexual and go live his life as a gay man instead of being closeted.
