How do you deal with someone who makes food their entire identity?

???? Why are you making this a you thing?! STOP offering them anything, wtf?!

Absolutely. Because I bet they're a ton more fun than you!

Nobody. It’s weird they still sell it everywhere.

As Yogi Berra woudl say, no one drinks it anymore because it's always sold out!

Nothing, if they order it or eat it without squawking "OMG, so much sugar."

We are now trying to eat less sugar, less refined carbs, and yes, I am concerned with microplastics in our environment, because I'm a research scientist and I happen to follow endocrine changes in populations as they relate to environmental modifications.

But since I know there are brutally ignorant people like OP out there, I don't ever discuss it. We do what we need to do. You do whatever the heck you want. End of story.

Or maybe you shouldn’t discuss it because we don’t care. Seriously not trying to be snarky but your kids IBS and pre diabetic diagnosis isn’t really my problem. As a parent you need to be concerned with these things but it isn’t the responsibility of others. What do you want from these others? Should we all do exactly what you are doing in solidarity? I mean leave me alone with my Diet Coke and little Debbie’s. I’m not making you eat them.

This! It’s hilarious that PP doesn’t discuss it because “people are ignorant.” Please. No one GAF about your family’s eating habits. THAT’S why you don’t discuss it.

Seriously. I know exactly how bad a Coke is for me and I DGAF. Don't lecture me on the chemicals in soda and I will ignore all your kids' issues.

Deal. But make sure you don't complain about how you need to lose 10 to 50 pounds while you slurp and eat crap all day.

OP they sound well informed and healthy.

They are no less annoying than the people who talk about CrossFit all the time or vegetarians that have to tell everyone or libertarians that need you to know how special they are. All the same. I avoid them until they leave the cult.

I was this way once in my life so I can understand how you feel OP. I'm sure my friends felt the same way about me. Fortunately, at the time I connected with others like me and we became a collective group of self righteous unlikeable people. Mine situation was complicated with an eating disorder but all is good now, 25 years later.

The only advice I can give you is to avoid the person.

Keto is healthy? LOL.

It's the antithesis of healthy. What do the longest living populations on earth eat? They eat a carb-heavy diet full of fruits, vegetables, beans, and wholesome grains.

No they don't.

Try again. They DO eat non refined carbs and a lot of protein and vegetables.

This is usually the root of the folks hyper into what they are eating and not eating. The rest of us just go about our business without announcing it to the world.

+1
It’s the accompanying lecture that is annoying. No one cares about your food choices.

I feel like everyone is particular about something these days.

This person you are describing has orthorexia.

I knew a mom like that- she had basically cut out every type of food. She even told me that she spent every day, all day trying to figure out what to cook/eat.

Her husband divorced her and I know this is a big part of why.

Oh wow, I haven’t heard soda referred to as pop in so long! Brings back childhood memories.

Are you a boomer?

I’m a scientist as well. And no one here is being ignorant. You can cook, eat and follow whatever science you want. But no one needs to hear about it. That’s the issue.

This.

And agreed with an earlier poster re: the snowflake. I have 2 people in my life like this. 1 makes a production of her eating situation, the other just seamlessly figures it out without any issue. With Friend #1 it almost seems performative.
