EV owners think they saved money on gas. Unfortunately for them they just paid for all their gas savings upfront in the huge $10-15K premium added to the price of the car. The margins are so fat on Teslas that’s why Musk can keep lowering the price and still profit. And if you use solar to charge your EV all you did was pay your electricity bill upfront for the next 8-14 years depending on your math and assumptions.
My TSLA stock bought in 2019 and sold in November 2021 thanks you. |
This is no longer true. The cost of a model 3 or model Y is comparable to other cars in their class (especially given the subsidies on them). Our solar panels generate a $1300 a year check for us so far. The math works for us. |
Such a travesty. One must wonder what’s their overall goal. |
Ford was losing 36,000 per EV it sold. It cannot keep that up. Ford lost billions in an effort to get market share away from Tesla.
Ford has to increase its prices. |
Republicans might hate electric cars, but the 5th best selling car last year in America was the Tesla Y. The 3 best selling "cars" last year were trucks.

So the price of these Teslas have come down. Great. Then why do they still need subsidies or tax credits from the govt? How much did your solar panels cost and where do you live (general area)? |
That article is from a year and a half ago and Ford’s plans have changed since the resolution of the UAW strike. |
Liberals hate gas powered cars and seek to ban them, so Republicans should return the favor.

(DP) Why are you so vested in making people think solar panels and EVs are a bad idea? We have both, and we are happy. |
Why? To what end? |
Shows yet again that the Republicans are at this point nothing but knee-jerk reactionaries with no real platform or values or leadership other than to try and do whatever dumb things they hope will "make liberals cry." What a travesty they've become. |
The way that Trump (who, by the way, is not a member of the Senate, House, or White House) was able to torpedo the bi-partisan immigration reform bill answers your question. |
I'm a tesla owner. I'm totally okay with this. I pay more upfront but then my cost to operate is lower. And I don't have to to to gas stations. And I get to drive an awesome car. I can see why it's not for everyone but I don't get why the "pay more up front" is a bad thing. It's just a choice. Also I'm a republican. |
