Because it feels like a nod to global warming which does not exist. |
It’s 2022. Move on with your life. |
If the electric vehicle is charged from the grid using feasible and sustainable alternatives to carbon producing power generation, the electric car does have value. |
Nobody is out to destroy Tesla. Elon seems to be trying his best to do that on his own. Regardless Tesla is still selling fundamentally the same Model S after a decade, with some new bells and whistles. Meanwhile Kia/Hyundai is about to surpass Tesla in sales with a broader range of PHEV and EVs. And With a few years Toyota will lead the pack with next gen battery tech. To the credit of Tesla, it built a robust national supercharging system and has convinced people to buy its vehicles in spite of issues with parts and repairs. Tesla was also one of the first to figure out it could charge for technology upgrades ($200/mo for FSD) and remotely delete software and features. I happen to prefer cars with readily identifiable switches, buttons and knobs, as opposed to a giant tablet stuck to the middle of the dash, that seems to be the way the industry is moving for cost saving. |
One can be annoyed at Elon Musk but awed by what he and Tesla have managed to achieve in this technology. If we knew each other in person, you might see me say stuff against Musk. But you would be wrong if you thought that I was slagging Tesla or wanting it to fail. I can’t personally afford a Tesla. But if I could, I would absolutely buy one. |
Virtue signaling. MAGAs hate anything "the libs" like. |
Op here,
Okay this makes sense. I am fb friends with a relative who is a staunch republican (the Covid denying, conspiracy theorizing variety) and she regularly posts that she would rather walk or bike long distances than to have an EV. I don’t understand the hate. I mean, I don’t like SUVs (in terms of driving them, I am just used to smaller sedans) but if my car was totaled and all I could drive was DH’s SUV, I would get comfortable with it. I wouldn’t opt to walk 20 miles to Costco and bring everything home on foot. She also seems to have a theory that the government is going to force us all to buy only electric cars. I’m a dem but also very against that type of overreach. Regulation (such as emissions tests) are fine but forcing everyone to drive a certain type of car is too much. |
This is silly. The government has enforced CAFE and emissions standards for decades. Likewise passive restraint systems and airbags. Antilock brakes. Rear view cameras. Child seat anchors. Internal combustion engine emissions do incalculable harm to the environment. Even luddites who “don’t like SUVs” have to adapt. This starts with acknowledging that most unibody crossovers share the same platform and wheelbase as a sedan. |
I don’t know but we can’t have people being asked to cut back on electricity and push for EVs at the same time.

How many brothers and sisters are you okay with killing off? |
I swear it's the simple truth & nothing more. |
Seriously. Approach any fat white guy with facial hair and ask him about this, and he will respond in this vein. |
What I have observed is it is because of educational deficits. They are just less and less likely to be college-educated. |
^^^ Racist fat shaming. |
Yea, ok, you're a fat guy. Ya got facial hair? |
