Why do staunch republicans hate electric vehicles?

I keep seeing this pop up online and social media. What’s the deal?

I'm a staunch Republican and I have no problem with electric vehicles. I don't personally like them because I prefer ICE plus a manual transmission for the driving experience.

My real problem is the fact that we ignore proven energy generation technologies that are clean and would solve many of our challenges for fake solutions like wind. We've lost a lot of time pursuing this garbage.

I’m a staunch Republican. I drive a Tesla. I used to be a democrat until I watched the disgusting throwing of children under the bus during the pandemic.

Because it’s something Liberals are for so they are automatically against. 95% of Conservstivism/MAGAism is just being against the Libs.

Drinking bleach and ingesting hydroxychloroquine worked out better for you?

And just think of all the unwanted brothers and sisters those kids are going to have! Thanks republicans!

MAGAs don't like electric vehicles, or masks, or women's health care, or vegan food.

It's all right wing virtue signaling.

This is the correct answer.

My DH is not a staunch republican, mostly votes third party these days, although I think he voted for Youngkin. He has a weird aversion to electric cars, which I asked about recently. He says it is because he feels they are a way for rich people to feel morally superior to people who are less well-off. (FWIW we are middle class by NoVa standards, probably poor by DCUM standards). Personally, I also think he likes engine noise, which I don’t understand.

Wind makes electricity. If the ELECTRIC vehicle is charged using wind generated electricity, then...is it garbage?

In my podunk hometown's newspaper they let locals submit anonymous brief comments. One or two sentences.

After the town announced they were installing four (4) public chargers -- for free! using state and energy company grants -- there were dozens of comments raging about the four chargers and EVs in general. Low watt angry morons brainwashed by Fox News and the right wing apparatus.

Conservative here. I think hybrids make a lot more sense- no hatred for EVs other than I think they’ll have less penetration than people think, but time will tell.

I guess I took OP bait by responding

My dad had an LP of some drag races (the cars, not the drag queens) that he liked to listen to. Personally I appreciate the sound of Infinitis for some reason (don’t own one and never did, just really thought it was a nicely tuned automobile), but I like the sound of an inhabitable planet more. Electric cars get us closer to that than gas powered cars.

It's not just electric vehicles, when my republican aunt was complaining about having to get her gas lawn mower serviced, I mentioned how much we love our electric mower and how easy it is to take care of. She immediately turned sour and was like "I will NEVER buy an electric mower!".
