FB question: If a person's account was deactivated, does that mean they unfriended you?

Anonymous
So a FB friend and I had been messaging and when I tried to respond a day or two later, her account wasn't coming up. So I clicked on it in my list of friends and I got a message saying her account had been deactivated. Does that mean she unfriended me? Just curious as I'm not sure how that aspect of FB works (unfriending --- do you know what it happens?).

F/U question: If I unfriend someone, do they get a notice or is there a way for them to know that?

It just means that they closed down their account. You weren't unfriended. And if you unfriend someone they are not contacted.

Bizarre. No clue why she would have shut down her account. She had 500+ friends and seemed to use the account frequently.

No, they basically "turned off" facebook but are still able to reactivate it if they want. It's one step short of deleting your facebook account.

If they deactivate it for some reason, you will still be friends. I had a friend do that recently. I think she's tired of facebook's convoluted privacy settings. But she came back anyway.

That should be *re activate* it.

Some people deactivate when they're applying for jobs, so the employer can't search their page and find stuff that might incrimate them.

And some folks get off facebook from time to time when it becomes too much for them. (like if they're having a hard time financially and their friends tend to post about exotic trips and fancy dinners out.)

Or folks deactivate when they believe they are being stalked or that someone, perhaps the press, is trying to smear them. Really like how FB brought lots of different strands of my life together, but also know that there are people who use it for malicious reasons.

Someone on my list has done this a few times as well. She still appears on my list of friends, unless I chose to remove her from there. Once she came back with her re-activated account, we were still on each others' lists.

I just deactivated my account a couple of days ago. I used to have my settings so I was up searchable, but they changed it so it does not apply anymore. I noticed when they did that, many websites had my personal information that they did not have before. There are some people from my past that don't need to know anything about me. I now know the only way to do that from here on out is to stay off of social media sites.

I would not assume that you have been unfriended. A few of my friends have done this from time to time.

I have a family member that deactivates at least once a year. Whatever.

I deactivated recently. I was not very active on FB to begin with but used it just so that people could find me if they wanted. FB is not for me.

No, you get no notification from Facebook when someone blocks you or disable his account. However, there are several loopholes in facebook that allows you to know if you have been blocked or not. A quick google search revealed this interesting article:

If their account was de-activated, then no, they didn't "unfriend" you, they just shut off their account temporarily but not permanently.

If you unfriend someone on FB, they will only know if they do not see you anymore on their friend's list, and when they type your name in the SEARCH box and find your profile, it shows the ADD FRIEND tab on it which gives them the option to add you as their friend again.

But to my knowledge, they do not get a notification from anyone that they have been unfriended.

That would be just cold.
