"A December surge propelled health care sign-ups through the government's rehabilitated website past the 1 million mark, the Obama administration said Sunday, reflecting new signs of life for the problem-plagued federal insurance exchange." Back in October, I bet one of the Republicans here that enrollments would easily be over 1 million and here is how he replied: "What planet are you from? You make it sound like they are signing people up right and left. We will just see, won't we! I hope when you are proven wrong, you are able to admit you were wrong instead of spouting the party line day and night." http://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/336616.page#4182470 So, turns out that I'm from Planet Earth. But, where are you? As I said in response to your post: "Deal. Let's meet back here on Jan. 1 and see which of us will be enjoying crow with our bubbly." I suggest that some fresh rosemary and a bit of thyme might go well with your crow. |
I like your style Jeff. |
People can enroll b/c it's finally working adequately. And people are forced to. |
Well gosh, I would much rather people be forced to buy insurance to protect themselves than be forced into bankruptcy for getting sick without insurance like I was. |
Over 47 million nonelderly Americans were uninsured in 2012. One million enrolled is hardly a crow dinner. |
Please share your plan to insure all those people? |
The White House, Democratic lawmakers and advocacy organizations will launch a campaign this week to highlight real-life experiences under the Affordable Care Act — tales so compelling that they help drive up enrollment, marginalize Republican repeal efforts and erase memories of this fall’s HealthCare.gov debacle.
White House officials and congressional aides say they have been lining up consumers and vetting their stories to tell through videos, blogs, local news, press conference calls and Twitter feeds, including those of celebrities. Carnival Clowns. |
Of course. The Dems are brilliant at spinning things and since the Reps. have no better option(s) to offer.... |

They had projected 3. 3M by December 31. Also, the big question about the enrollment is: how many have paid? and, how many are healthy? |
The terms of the bet were the terms of the bet. Don't move the goalposts now. A lot more people were covered under expanded Medicaid and the over 1 million number I cited doesn't include the state exchanges. So, the total who have received insurance is higher than 1 million. But, leave it to a Republican to find reducing the number of uninsured to be a bad thing. If you had your way, even these 1 million would have been out of luck for another year (or indefinitely). |
I am a full supporter of Obama and the ACA. However, I don't know why the marketplaces had to be available only online. It seems like it would have been better to have physical locations where people could meet with a social worker, have options explained to them, and then helped through the process. I suppose that's what the ACA navigators were for, and my guess is that the Rs would have opposed any additional funding for any outreach efforts that would have made the program more successful. |

Too bad The Won doesn't concentrate on jobs like he does welfarecare. |
These were Obama's words back in 2011: “I know there’s a lot going on in the world, and the news is filled with images of the Middle East and Japan,” Obama said during an appearance at UPS. “But you should know that keeping the economy growing and making sure jobs are available is the first thing I think about when I wake up every morning. It’s the last thing I think about when I go to bed each night.” Has anyone told him that it takes more than "thinking about" it to actually make a difference? |
