You are all missing the point. You chose an OOB option for your kids, worked the commute into your decision making and decided it was worth it for your family. We have a great inbound school, and chose it for proximity. Inbound parents didn't sign up for this, and won't accept that this is the best they can do. I understand that space is tight in Georgetown. But we are surrounded by 15 neighborhoods that are closer and more convenient than Shaw.

All of this may be beside the point. I drive by DESA every day and there is no way in hell that building will be ready next fall. So if DESA students can't leave Meyer, we won't be leaving Hyde.

I think it's useful for OOB parents who make the choice to commute to speak up...not because it's an apples to apples comparison but to show that commuting is not impossible. If you don't want to commute for two years, then come up with an alternative plan for your child. H-A's SIT and DCPS should NOT have suggested swing spaces such as Hardy that only caused those of us at other Hardy feeders to be hyper aware of your seeming indifference to disrupting my child's middle school for your convenience. The suggestion of Hardy was made without even consulting the Hardy community. How the hell did plans get drawn up with a bubble tent taking up Hardy's outdoor space without anyone thinking, "hey, we should talk to Hardy families." Now my sympathies for H-A are greatly diminished.

I think PP is right. Duke Ellington will continue to swing at Meyer and H-A reno will be put on hold...again.

Im the Hyde parent, and am actually with you on this. I don't want our little kids jammed into your space, for a number of reasons. What I want is an empty building or trailer school on one of the myriad public fields scattered across the area. Or I want them to stay right where they are while construction happens on the new outbuilding--which has been deemed too distracting. The OLD Hardy fields off of Foxhall would have been perfect, yet were tossed for not being large enough (which is absurd, they are enormous--like 5 times bigger than NEW Hardy's track.) Hyde parents got railroaded into one terrible option, and many of us feel like it was a foregone conclusion from the start. So here we are, and won't be letting up any time soon. Can you IMAGINE if this happened to a JKLM? It wouldn't. The parents would burn City Hall down.

I agree. H-A community became indefendible the moment they started lobbying for swing space on the Hardy MS premises.

You should have concentrated your efforts on the Ellington field instead (be aware that the mentioned Ellington field is not the Duke Ellington high school field, rather an empty field between 38th St NW & R St NW) . Instead, misguided by Jack Evans, you decided to take sides with a bunch of Georgetown/Burleith residents living next to the Ellington field, and declared war against the Hardy community, and against its huge and increasing feeder school basin. You lost. Now, what do you want?

Clearly you didn't pay attention to the Murch swing space fiasco (and still on going).

But to demand an empty building or a trailer city in. Public park? Or to swing in a construction site? That is better than a bus ride? Come on. Really?

I lost faith in the FBI when a friend who works for the agency told me that they charged someone with having bomb making materials after they found a bottle of Drano under the kitchen sink and a computer store catalog laying around. "Bomb making materials" is what shows up in the indictment and the papers...not the one bottle of Drano and an electronics catalog. Law enforcement will contort whatever they need to fit their narrative, therefore, I trust none of it.

sorry, wrong thread

I don't think anyone took sides with the Burleith community, they went nuts at the suggestion that we locate there due to traffic concerns which is why it was nixed. At the beginning of all this, we were told that students wouldn't have to relocate, which is why anyone supported the renovation in the first place. Then we were informed that we would have to relocate, but they promised it would be locally and for one year. Then we were told Meyer was the only option, and it would be two years. THIS is why myself and many others just want the whole thing scrapped. They kept moving the goalposts until we opened our eyes and the endzone was Shaw.

Dear Hyde parent. No sympathy for you.

Your representatives negotiated an agreement with the Mayor's office and Ward 2 J. Evans through the back door . You were so naive, misinformed and stupid that you thought that the Hardy community would remain passive after learning that you were planning to build trailers on their whole outdoor space. You have no idea or interest to understand what the Hardy community is formed of, current and prospective parents. You are so Georgetown-centered.

Too bad. You could have allied with your own Hardy feeder community , and work for the common interest of strenghtening all of our neighborhood schools. Your representatives decided otherwise, they decided to join forces with the Burleith Citizens Association , who opposed the use of the Ellington field due to concerns about congestion associated with the ongoing construction at the Ellington School and nearby MedStar Georgetown University Hospital..." (see http://www.thegeorgetowndish.com/thedish/hyde-addison-project-faces-delay-until-2017).

Now bear your consequences. Next time, be more considerate in picking your enemies and your allies.

You forgot the part when they told you that it was either Ellington field or Hardy school , but that opposition against Ellington field was mounting in the Burleith Citizens , so it was easier to dump Hardy school, but pssss keep it as a secret and do not let them know otherwise they will oppose too. And you said "we are in!".

Well, if the city didn't rent out all the best spots (Jelleff Field that privates have exclusive rights to, Lab School at Hardy Rec, etc.) there might be a viable close-by location.

Dramatic but pretty true.

There is a viable close-by location, the Ellington field between 38th St NW & R St NW. However the Burleith & Hillandale Residents collected signatures against its use on the ground of these SURREAL reasons :
- traffic increase in an area already affected by the traffic heading to Georgetown Hospital
- disruption of operations of various other schools and organizations that already use the field for different purposes (!!!????)
- the field’s layout wouldn’t easily accommodate trailers or adequate parking ( WTF???)

See it yourself: http://www.thegeorgetowndish.com/thedish/hyde-addison-project-faces-delay-until-2017

Given this list of strong and severe concerns , it was responsibly decided instead , in order to preserve the non-better specified " various other schools and organizations that already use the field for different purposes", to disrupt Hardy students instead and deprive them for 2 years on any outdoor space.
