Can someone please provide a little insight into what's going on with this school? Has the new construction begun? I.e., is it in the swing space yet? Has the construction impacted number of applicants to this school? thanks.

Hasn't started yet.

There's a SIT committee meeting (open to the public) tonight. Lots of information on the school website

You are going to have to write off Hyde for the next 2 years. They chose Meyer Elementary in SHAW as our swing space and folks will be leaving in droves. You just can't bus 3-4 year olds across the city twice a day. The school community is up in arms, but unless Duke Ellington is delayed even more (they are currently occupying Meyer), it looks like DCPS has effectively destroyed an up and coming neighborhood elementary school community.

Pray tell, where else is the empty or swing space that you expected them to go in Georgetown, Palisades, etc. etc?

The Marie Reed students are being bussed daily without incident. Ask them how it's going before assuming it is going to 'destroy' anything.

+1 and Murch is doing great too. If families "leave in droves" that's their own foolishness. But then again, this is a community that was going to be fine with upending "an up and coming neighborhood" middle school by trying to take up every available square inch, inside and out, at Hardy. Thank goodness that ridiculous, expensive and chaotic plan desired by a few and touted by their mouthpiece, Jack Evans, is off the table.

Also Meyer is going to be used for swing space going forward for many of these renovations rather than building expensive trailer cities over and over.

Upgrading it to serve this purpose was baked into cost of Ellington's renov (relatively small part, but still) and it makes a lot of sense.

Looks like Evans and his Georgetown elitists have not given up yet. They insist that Hardy's students sacrifice is worth nothing, as the school is majority black.

Why not use the renovated space at Duke Ellington High School, for two years? It is supposed to be ready next year, and the new building is going to be gigantic -- why not let the kiddies use part of it for a little while?

Parents of ES kids do not want to share space with HS teenagers.

But they are ok with depriving Hardy MS students of any outdoor space for athletics and recess in order to implant their trailers on the Hardy grounds.

I thought I read in the NW Current a few weeks ago that the Murch swing space at UDC was offered as an option if the parents would want to wait an extra year for the renovation and the parents rejected the option.

Hyde parent here. Nope, DCPS has not entertained the Murch/UDC option, nor the Ellington one. I would prefer both to Meyer but per DCPS, Meyer is the only site that fits their incomprehensibe criteria. Most of the parents I've talked with in my child's class (we're in PK) favor no renovation over swinging to Meyer. I could care less about expanding the size of the school or having a true cafeteria or gym. Taking the kids out rain or shine would solve that latter issue.

Found it. NW Current on 10/12/16 says Jenny Niles offered Murch/UDC as option and it was rejected by parents.
