I second this suggestion. |
There's a FrozenYo in Ballston - opened a few months ago. |
I agree. Skip the frozen yogurt. Go for a real ice cream shop instead. It will do better. Not too many around these days and definitely a demand. |
Agreed. Open a Brewster's franchise instead. The one in Gaithersburg always seems busy and gets great reviews. Tasty ice cream! |
? Tell me where you are in DC and I'll name a few nearby. They are everywhere. |
I love frozen yogurt, but I would also really like a soft serve ice cream place. We don't have anything like that close to me in Arlington ( there's Carvel, but that is being sold soon). |
McLean has iBerry (not Pinkberry) on 123 and Old Chain Bridge Road. There is also Greenberry's and Starnut that sell ice cream.
I'd recommend the Merrifield area - strip mall where Pho Cyclo / Staples is may have space. Or where the new Target is in Merrifield. |
My prediction (totally out of my a@$) is that something will come out soon about how something in the frozen yogurt (some chemical additive or whatever) is bad for you and the whole craze will die down. I've already noticed that the ones by us are not as busy as they used to be, bit that us most likely because the market is saturated.
The ice cream industry will put out a study on how frozen yogurt isn't as healthy as people like to think, and people will give it up. |
I seriously hope nobody thinks frozen yoghurt is healthy. Sure, it may be a little better than icecream, but it is a sweet snack: not a healthy food. |
There's also a Sweetgreen. |
Ugh. This is the worst location because it's a PITA to get in and out of there. Maybe it will get better once they're done with the Gallows construction. Don't open one in Mosaic because Sweetgreen is there and they sell frozen yogurt. |
I live in Lake Barcroft and for years I've been saying that I want to open a Froyo place nearby. The parking situation is not ideal, but I think that the shopping center at the intersection of Columbia Pike and Leesburg Pike (Trader Joe's and Best Buy) is an excellent location. |
Well I guess this trend comes and goes. I'm sure some of us remember the TCBY's all over the place in the 80's and part of the 90's, and then they basically had shut down by 2000 (got bought by Mrs Fields), only to re-open again 10 years later.
If you're a franchisee, then the company should already be providing you with accurate market data on each area/zipcode, the demographics/etc, list of competitors, rent rates, etc etc. Are they not doing this? |
Sully Plaza in Chantilly |
I think people do think of it as a healthy option. Less fat than ice cream. |
