New mom kicked out of Uber

Anonymous
Another article says that the car that hit her was traveling in the center right lane. So, she wasn't even on the shoulder or near the edge-- She was actually in the middle of traffic.

Maybe she was inebriated, as another poster implied. After pregnancy and breastfeeding, a drink or two with dinner might have hit much harder than expected.

Police say now (3 days after the incident/start of investigation) that they have no evidence that she was dropped off/kicked out on the beltway.

It's hard not to be suspicious of the husband given the lack of info, plus his funeral comments . . .

Where / what were his funeral comments? This whole thing is a tragedy.

I read the husband's words at the funeral. Didn't seem suspicious. He is grieving and sad and said what he thought was the right thing to say.

+1 I thought his comments were fine. This whole situation is so sad.

Am I reading this wrong, or does the Uber receipt show a $3 tip and a 5 star review? Which would be odd if the trip was cut short and they were kicked out on the side of the highway.

If she was indeed wandering on a highway it’s unlikely anyone would have been able to stop in time. I wonder if someone spiked her drink at the bar and that caused her to act erratically. Poor family.

That’s what I was wondering, too.

I seriously hope the cops thoroughly investigate. The husband seems to be trying insulate himself in sympathy. And of course it's sad and tragic but there are very big holes in this story. The family talking up Uber makes it seem like they are angling for a lawsuit when I can't help but sense that there was foul play. I would have thought that every square inch of the beltway is in camera at this point.

Ok...why are you telling us something so obvious?

If the mom was kicked out of the Uber at 1 am, maybe the father/DH went home rather than get out with his wife - the 8 month old baby was presumably with a sitter or grandparents or someone and maybe he needed to get home to the baby.

If they both got out at the same time, then where was he? Not clear.

And he just let her wander around on the highway?? No call to the police that his DW is walking on the Beltway in the dark, clearly at high risk of being hot by a car?

Does not explain how her DH let all this happen though, he was in the Uber with her.

He said something about that he would be a single dad and how that would be a challenge.
It was a little too ME.

It’s always the husband.

This thread title is everything wrong with the media today. Blaming someone who is quite likely completely innocent and ruining their life just to get clicks.

The police have said the Uber driver didn’t drop her on the highway plus there were several hours before she was struck. I feel bad for the poor driver who is getting blamed by reactive people just because the people responsible (her family!) are trying to deflect blame onto him.
