Can you still grab a taxi at IAD/DCA?

There's always a ton of them waiting right there, they all take credit cards and all use GPS now. There's no waiting in the chaotic outside lane for an Uber/Lyft that might be 10 minutes away, and the taxi almost certainly will be cheaper.

Unless you check bags or need to take a long bathroom break, order an Uber as you walk off the plane. You will get to the curb right as it arrives. Works like a charm. I do it multiple times per month at DCA.

We always take Uber to DCA and taxi home from DCA.
The taxis are plentiful at DCA and much easier than trying to wait for and meet Uber.

There were no cabs last week when we arrived at DCA. Uber area was a total cluster ****

It is chaos waiting for an Uber at Dulles tonight. Long wait. Crowded pickup area. Wondering if Washington Flyer is easier these days? Has anyone attempted recently?

I did it like a week ago. There was a line of 3 people and I waited under 2 minutes. Way way better than trying to find my Uber.

I almost always use the Washington Flyer taxis at IAD rather than Uber - the wait is just too long and too chaotic for the drivers to squeeze through the carshare lane.

That’s because no one polices the arrivals section of IAD. So rather than using the cell phone lot, people just pull up to the curb, turn the engine off and park for a 20-30 minutes. Sometimes double and triple park. I thought no parking, terrorism risk, tow your car, etc, etc but nope. Last time I came in, no police in site and no traffic moving. Period.

We’ve been doing college kid pickup and drop off at IAD this month for spring break. After it taking in 45 minutes to go from the cell phone lot to arrivals when Kid 1 got home because traffic was at a standstill, we’ve started picking kids up at the departures level, instead of arrivals. Which actually works well. But, Ugghhh. It’s like all the MD drivers suddenly moved from blocking the box in Dc to blocking arrivals at IAD.

Sorry. Rant over.

The easy solution would be for IAD to make the first hour of parking free like DCA does. But picking up at departures is a good workaround.

There’s a free cell phone lot. You wait there. Get a call. Arrive at pickup in 3 minutes. Or 43, if everyone just turns off their car and waits.

Not really a taxi service. Airport cartel monopoly is what it is and I still don’t understand how it is still seen as legal.

Stop being pedantic. For the purposes of this thread, it’s a taxi service.

The last 3 times I have come into DCA I haven't been able to get an uber or lyft. Its just crazy. I've taken a taxi and the cost has been similar.

I had a business trip to KC last week. The uber to the airport in KC was horrific. Trash all over the place and smelly. The trunk was full so I had to put my suitcase on the seat next to me. I got back to DCA and tried to order an uber. It said it would be 4 minutes but was taking 10+ minutes to match me with a drive (and I only live in Falls Church). I moved over to the taxi line and had a great experience and it was cheaper than uber would have been. I am just about ready to give up on uber/lyft.

Nope.

Of course there is at IAD. My DH took the Washington Flyer taxi just yesterday.

Why doesn’t DCA have Washington Flyer, they tend to be better run and cleaner.

It’s not though. How do you not understand that.
