It is chaos waiting for an Uber at Dulles tonight. Long wait. Crowded pickup area. Wondering if Washington Flyer is easier these days? Has anyone attempted recently?
That’s because no one polices the arrivals section of IAD. So rather than using the cell phone lot, people just pull up to the curb, turn the engine off and park for a 20-30 minutes. Sometimes double and triple park. I thought no parking, terrorism risk, tow your car, etc, etc but nope. Last time I came in, no police in site and no traffic moving. Period. We’ve been doing college kid pickup and drop off at IAD this month for spring break. After it taking in 45 minutes to go from the cell phone lot to arrivals when Kid 1 got home because traffic was at a standstill, we’ve started picking kids up at the departures level, instead of arrivals. Which actually works well. But, Ugghhh. It’s like all the MD drivers suddenly moved from blocking the box in Dc to blocking arrivals at IAD. Sorry. Rant over.
The easy solution would be for IAD to make the first hour of parking free like DCA does. But picking up at departures is a good workaround.
