Need a foundation that won't break me out

Anonymous
OP, did you ever find a foundation? My story is EXACTLY like yours

I use a Clinique anti-red sunscreen (it's actually green! But doesn't make you look green) to combat my rosacea, and cover it with Mac StudioFix powder or, if I need something more substantial, liquid Mac foundation.

I have horrible skin -- lots of acne scars and other weird bumps plus the rosacea) and this amount of coverage works well, looks natural, and turns my redness into more of a glow.

I'm still ordering from Prescriptives. Not OP, but I have a similarly difficult time with breakouts and sensitivity. I've noticed that Prescriptives will sell out of something for several months, then it will be available again. I hope, given that it's a year after they announced the end of Prescriptives that internet sales have proven robust enough for them to continue making/selling it as an online-only product line. When they have the foundation I like, I stock up on two or three at a time. (I use the Virtual Skin.)

I get terrible breakouts whenever I try a new product, but I just started using Bobbi Brown Skin foundation a few weeks ago and so far so good. I really like this stuff. I read a ton of reviews that said it was good for people with oily, sensitive skin (which i have), so I tried it and it's giving me really natural looking coverage, with no breakouts.

Oh, whoops! I just re-read the original post and saw that you tried Bobbi Brown and it didn't work. I should've read from the beginning before I posted this. sorry!

I like Neutrogena Mineral oil free powder foundation. Great coverage, not too powdery, doesn't break me out. I also like MAC's oil free powder foundation as well.

MakeUp Forever Face and Body Foundation--at Sephora. Mostly water. Used to use Mercier Oil Free and switched to this--much clearer skin. Excellent on wrinkles. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!

Have you tried Shiseido?

i have super super sensitive skin and the only thing i've found over the years that works for me is CoverFx. You can buy it at sephora.

I use Philosophy (moisturizer, cleansers) and have for years, but Supernatural broke me out. I have a new tube if you want it - I'll send it to you, seriously.

To combat oily skin, I found that Smashbox light primer is awesome. My skin is still matted into the afternoon, and I used to have to blot by 10am. It also gives great coverage - it comes tinted and non-tinted. My DH uses it as well.

I'm now grateful I have oily skin!

I use mark. products by AVON, yes, AVON! I have tried everything (MAC StudioFix, MakeupForever, Bobbi Brown, Laura Mercier, fresh, Clinique Superbalanced, Smashbox AND Giorgio Armani). Obviously I have made many visits back to the counter to return stuff after it made me look like a strawberry or worse, a slice of pizza.

I use the mark. get a tint tinted moisturizer w/SPF 15.

Have you tried Mac Studio Fix? It is the ONLY foundation that will not break me out. I've tried Laura Mercier, Shiseido, Clinique, etc. I think that the powder offers great, "clean" coverage. I use, of all things, an Oil of Olay lotion/suncreen underneath (the only lotion, cheap or expensive, that will not break me out).

I'd be careful about using smashbox primer if you have sensitive skin, OP. I'm the PP who posted about the bobbi brown skin foundation, and the last time I tried using smashbox oilfree primer, it made me break out with cystic acne. Smashbox uses silicone in its primer, which is great for making make-up go on smoothly, but it's terrible for sensitive skin b/c it basically seals up your pores and doesn't let them breathe. Someone above mentioned CoverFX brand. They make a primer that contains some salicylic acid in it, and I would recommend that instead, if you really want a primer.

OP, did you ever make it to Trish McEvoy? I've had luck there.

You could try Chantecaille too.
