Need a foundation that won't break me out

Anonymous
Hi,

Almost every foundation makes me break out. I found two over the years that don't break me out but 1) Prescriptives is out of business 2) Arbonne just changed their formula and the new foundation just broke me out.

I have tried Bobbi Brown oil free and the Nars Matte Finish. Bobbi Brown broke me out horribly and just bought the Nars and I got white heads on day one.

Any ideas? I am thinking about the Laura Merier oil free.

Thanks

I have crappy skin and I like Philosophy's Supernatural Superbeautiful. It's like a tinted SPF moisturizer. It's light enough to wear in the summer and I don't have any breakouts.

Bare Escentuals.
See it to believe it--make an appt at the store in Tysons so they can show you how it works.
I have icky skin--oily, dry patches, sensitive, breakout-prone with some new age-spots. It smooths out everything and people tell me I look about 5-8 yrs younger than I am.

Parabens can be a culprit, and are in a lot of liquid foundations. Also, don't use anything that has the sunscreens oxybenzone and avobenzone--they also can irritate the skin.

Good luck!

Second the Bare Escentuals. Made for very sensitive skin and only foundation that can be used after dermacological procedures. 100% pure with no chemicals that can cause reactions.

You should also only use foundation where you need it. Using it all over is very OL and unnecessary.

OP here-I bought the Bare Minerals last night and I really feel like I might as well have not worn anything. I don't really get it. Then tonight I noticed that my eyes are very puffy from where I used the product as a concealer like I was told to do.

Any other suggestions?

OP, you should not be using the Bare Minerals foundation powder as a concealer. One of the beauties of using this product is that the foundation should feel and look as if you have nothing on - just perfect skin. If you can see it, or if your skin looks caked, you've used too much. Literally only use a microscopic amount.

Tell us more about what you used and how.

Op here-Today did not use as a concealer...but that was what I was told to do by the make up artist.

Honestly...I think it shows every line in my face, doesn't do anything for me. And I am using very little. I have the whole tap swirl thing down.

My skin hardly looks perfect...in fact I see every pore etc and am using the primer and mineral viel too.

Pretty sure this is going back to the store.

Pregnancy gave me horrible skin...horrible...in fact, five months later and I still have breakouts and now some dark spots/scarring. I tried a bunch of different make-up to cover it and products to help clear it up but nothing helped. Until...on my mother's advice I went to the Clinique (of all places) counter at Tysons II. I ended up with mineral powder and a concealer that I LOVE. For the the first time in ages, I feel like my face looks normal. (In addition, I started using their acne solutions line and that product their new product Even Better that helps with scars and dark spots. I have only been using it a week but I swear you can tell the difference. My husband even said something which is telling because he is not all that observant.)

If you have any wrinkles on your face, powder foundation is not for you. I would return it and get your money back!

I have sensitive combination skin and like you, do break out with many foundations. The one that makes me not break out is Revlon ColorStay liquid foundation. There are 2 versions: one for oily skin, one for dry skin. I recently started using the Dry version, but used the oily version for many years. It also has great sunscreen protection.

Try it for a week, if you don't like it you can return it to the drugstore if you keep your receipt.

I LOVE Laura Mercier oil free tinted moisturizer. I have very oil skin that is extremely prone to breakouts. I have been using this product for years. Its a little expensive but its my one make-up splurge. I use my hands to apply for sheer coverage or a sponge for a little more coverage and finish up with he powder. I never fell like I have any make up on. Plus it has SPF.

If you go to Sephora they will give you a sample although I am not sure how long the testers have been sitting out and Iwould hate you for to have a bad experience because of old make-up

OP--if you go to www.prescriptives.com it looks like they still sell some of their foundations online.

OP, I am one of the pp's who uses Bare Escentuals. From your description of seeing lines, you've used too much. That's what happened to me the first time, too. This is a very different kind of foundation and takes a little bit to get used to..... Seriously, use just a SPECK and swirl it completely into the bristles, tap and buff in small circular motions. You should not be able to see it all. The one container of foundation you bought should last you a minimum of 6 months.

Btw, it is not a powder even though it looks like one - one of those hybrid products out there that only looks like a powder but melts into the skin. You should not be able to tell that there is anything on your skin.

OP here...ok just bought a new one from Clinique and will try that.

Thank you for all of your help with Bare Escentuals. I appreciate it but it all sounds very high maintence for me. I do have to chuckle at the 4 products I was told to use on my face to make me look natural! I think it is just not for me.

I am the Clinique poster and am curious what product you ended up getting! I meant to add earlier (but was holding a baby at the time) that foundation just never works for me...the lady at the counter did a great job at it but you could just tell it wasn't settling in my skin well. I had explained that before but was willing to let her try. Afterwards, she told me I was right so she washed it off and started over with the concealer and then powder.

Hi, I ended up with Perfectly Real.

I have been able to wear some foundation in the past but sadly Prescriptives went out of business (and my foundation is not available on the website) and Arbonne changed the formula and it now breaks me out.

So hoping that Clinique Perfectly Real might work...if not on to another test!
