Going home hungry after birthday parties

Anonymous
We had to stop to get fast food after a birthday party today.

Since when did parents stop serving food at birthday parties?

All the parties we have gone to in the past served at least pizza. I always serve full meals at our parties.

What time frame was the party?

I'd only offer meals if it was during meal time. Otherwise, its just finger foods and cake.

Just in case the parents read DCUM, I prefer not to say.

Kiddie parties tend to start at off times and bump into meal times.

I always feed my guests. I would never want anyone to leave an event I hosted hungry.

I always think it's weird when people don't serve food at parties, they plan them at odd hours like 2-4 so they don't have to feed anyone, but Someone is bound to be hungry. I always serve food too.

We always eat something before we go to a party, my boys are big eaters and I don't want them to look like they are being greedy.
Plus, I always do this before adult parties too, you never know how much food is going to be served, and being a picky eater, I never know if I will like the food.

OP here. We are the opposite. When we go to a party, we expect to be fed so we don't eat before the party, especially since the start time is before meal time. We already ate the previous meal so we aren't going to eat again before going to the party.

I am having a morning birthday party for my son. The party will start late morning and of course we plan to serve our guests lunch. I think if the party time spills over to a meal time (past 12 or past 5), the guests are going to start getting hungry. If you had to travel to attend the party, by the time you get home and make dinner, it would be way past meal time.

I think the only time you can probably get away with no meal is probably 2-4 but we've pretty much only been invited to parties that start at 10:30, 11:00, 3:30 or 4:00.

There was no food whatsoever? Even if I hosted a party that didn't occur at a meal time, I still make sure I have snacks for adults and kids. Sounds like crappy hosting.

Probably the host reads DCUM and is afraid to serve anything other than organic carrots and water to avoid offending the sensibilities of the guests. Seriously, you can't win.

I have been to a few short parties where they only served cake, I don't remember what the times were. It can be annoying but I really wouldn't assume they would be feeding the adults too. It's a nice gesture but it doesnt always happen. I just always have cereal bars in the console of the car anyway

I'm sorry but I refuse to serve anything but snacks and cake if the party is between 1 and 5. If I take my kids to a party before 1pm I would certainly feed them lunch beforehand and If the party ended after 5 I would plan to serve my kids dinner. I hate all this needless pizza served at parties and I hate that kids expect it regardless of the time.

Our kids are not drop off age yet so a parent still has to attend with them.

And I assume the parent that is waiting at the party can go more than 2 hours without eating, right?

I was wondering the same thing. Nothing with eggs, peanuts, strawberries, dairy products, juice, wheat and gluten free. Of course, they aren't serving food because water is the only safe thing to serve and some of you would complain about this.

isn't half the party eating?

every party i've ever hosted involved eating. this is before and after children.

do people not feed guests due to money? i don't think these families are struggling.

I've never been to a party where there wasn't food. I feel like that's part of the definition of a party. I don't think you have to feed adults, per se, but I do think it's really weird to not offer some sort of snack for the children. It's not that hard to get something safe.
