Tattoos - Would you? Do you? If so, regrets?

Anonymous
I enjoy polling fellow DCUM junkies -- gives me a small peek at our general demographic profile. (-:

So, tattoos:

Do you have one/some? Me: No
Do you regret getting one? If so, why?
Would you get one? Me: Perhaps something small/discreet
Where would you put it? Me: Center of my back (between my shoulder blades)
Age? Me: 43
Sex? Me: M

Yes, 3
I like tattoos
Would definitely get more, or add to the ones I have. All are hidden except the one on my foot.

Do you have one/some? - yes, five- none visible unless in swimsuit (shoulderblade, hip, back, foot, ankle)

Do you regret getting one? Yes, out of the five, I regret two

Would you get one? Haven't had a new one since I was about 21. Have thought about another

Where would you put it? Wrist or inner forearm

Age? : 34
Sex? :F

I got all of my tattoos between the ages of 18-21. This is not an age group best known for its judgement. I am no different. Out of the five, three are quite lovely and I like them a lot. Two are Kanji, which I wholeheartedly regret not just for the fact that I have no tie to Japanese culture, but also because if I wanted meaning, I should go for something meaningful and obvious to ME. Luckily the two I dislike are small and one I never see unless backward in a mirror.

As a parent, I hope my kids don't get tattoos not because I don't think they're lovely, but because I don't think you can improve on perfection.

Do you regret getting one? If so, why? Yes. I think they are both kind of tacky now, especially the one on my breast. The one on my ankle is visible to others and I just don't like it anymore.
Would you get [another] one? Maybe. I have thought about getting something to represent my family (husband, child, pup) but I don't know what exactly.
Where would you put it? Not sure
Age? 37 (got my tattoos at 21 and 23)

Do you regret getting one? If so, why? N/A
Would you get one? Me: Never, I'm a regular blood donor and that would render me less eligible
Where would you put it?

Yes, I have one tattoo on the inside of my right wrist -- it's 1" by 1" so pretty small
No I don't regret, but won't get anymore
I got it at 35 and I am now 42, F

Spouse does not have any and most likely won't

Hopefully if my kids want tattoos when they are older they will follow my lead and get something small and meaningful to them

There may be other reasons to avoid a tattoo, but blood donations should not be one of them. From the Red Cross donation guidelines:

Wait 12 months after a tattoo if the tattoo was applied in a state that does not regulate tattoo facilities .... Acceptable if the tattoo was applied by a state-regulated entity using sterile needles and ink that is not reused. There are 32 states that currently regulate tattoo facilities.

Some quick research says that MD and VA are states that regulate tattoos, while DC is unregulated. http://www.aaatattoodirectory.com/tattoo_regulations.htm

Would you get one? No. My sister got a lot of tattoos when she was a teen in the late 80s so I feel like tattoos are already overrepresented in our family. I don't really care for them and I have a hard time feigning admiration when someone shows me a brand new tattoo.

Don't have one. Thought about it in college but never did it. I no longer have any interest but I don't necessarily think I would be regretting it if I'd done it.

Hell no.

Trashy, declasse and more important, permanent!

Do you have one/some? Yes, one small tattoo that I got when I was 22.
Do you regret getting one? No regrets. It's a design that is meaningful to me.
Would you get one? I don't have any desire for another one.
Where would you put it? My current one is on my leg, just above the knee. If I want it to show, I wear a slightly shorter skirt, but it's easy to cover at work, church, etc.

The funniest thing happened a couple of years ago, when my son was 6. We were hanging out together, and I was wearing shorts. He looked at the tattoo and asked, in a fairly accusatory tone, "Does Daddy know you have a tattoo?"

39-year-old F here. I got one tattoo on my 35th birthday, with two of my friends. I'd always wanted one and had never gotten around to it. It's on the top of my right butt cheek. I'm thinking about getting another one for my 40th birthday, at the top of my left butt cheek. Good place for it, because the fat made it hurt less and nobody has to see it unless I show them. (i'm in a conservative field.) I just love mine. No regrets whatsoever. My 3-year-old daughter thinks it's awesome. I'm conservative in dress, hair and makeup - the tattoo is kind of a symbol that secretly, I'm a nonconformist and a bit of a badass.

I have a small red rose on my hip that I don't regret at all! I'm adopted and I was legally adopted on April 1st when I was a little over a year old. So now, every April 1st, my dad gives me a rose. I'm 25 and he has not missed one year, including 2 major snowstorms (yay New England) and 4 years at college halfway across the country. I know that when my dad passes some day, I will always have this small reminder of our special day. It's also located on a place on my hip that only my DH sees or when I wear a skimpy bikini (ok so those days are pretty much over). That said, I don't know if I would get another tattoo as I would only get one that held a lot of meaning and was in a discreet place that not everyone could see.
