Did GOP/Kavanaugh conspire with Whelan to dox and accuse an innocent individual of sexual assault

Any conspiring on the other side?

Yes this is exactly why he doesn't deserve a seat. The treachery amongst friends shows just how be allowed the men around him (and most likely including him) are

Ed Whelan offered to resign from the think tank he heads (the ironically named ETHICS and Public Policy Center), but the board just made him take a leave of absence for a month. You know, just long enough for this to all blow over.

An "erhics" group gives him a month leave with pay. Ironic.

So, will the Democrats, or even the Republicans, bring this up at the hearing?

The Democrats have already said they would. And they should.

Exactly. Whelan would not have said anything publicly without first consulting with kavanaugh. Whelan would not want to say something that could jeopardize kavanaugh's confirmation. I'm sure everything said on this matter is carefully scrutinized prior to going on the record. No one just blurts out this sort of detailed info without consent from kavanaugh.

I hope the guy they fingered sues Whelan for defamation.

Since we haven’t heard from him, my guess is the middle school science teacher knew.

Not necessarily. Get real. Imagine yourself in his shoes. You're living your life, far away from the community where you grew up. You pick up the paper one day and realize Whelan is now saying YOU are the person who assaulted Ford, not Kavanaugh. You had nothing to do with it, but there it is in the newspaper. How do you react?

Do you decide not to say anything because you're innocent and there is no need to say anything? At the end of the day, it's vicious gossip. Is it better to ignore ridiculous gossip, or address it head on?

Do you hire a lawyer you can't afford (because you're a school teacher) and follow his instructions? If this guy is innocent, I hope he sues the hell out of everyone involved.

Or do you immediately begin screaming bloody hell because of the unfairness of the situation?

In other words, for all you people who have high caliber jobs, with sons in local private schools: Watch Out! This is the kind of fallout your son might face in 30 years through no fault of his except that he attended school and was friends with people who stayed in D.C. and are now in the middle of a political maelstrom with sh*t flying in all directions.

Teacher here. Something like this, plus his yearbook? He should already have a lawyer if he wants to keep his job.

Was Garrett’s yearbook page as bad as Kavanaugh’s and Judge’s? I haven’t seen it.

Yes, but Whalen walked back and redacted his tweet thread within hours. If he'd left it up, I'd be surprised if Garrett could keep his job without a lawyer or a statement or something. But since Whalen has "taken a leave of absence", made that directionless apology, and has taken down the accusatory tweet thread (although it remains archived on the internet), Garrett's position doesn't seem to be too shaky.
