Why are FCPS teachers suing their former principal?

55. Throughout this time, Ms. Lemmon repeatedly insisted that Rachel and the other
assistant principals only hire "pretty, young blondes," who did not have families, and would "work
for" her.
56. If a teacher was not a "pretty, young blonde" Ms. Lemmon would frequendy refer to
the teachers as the "geek squad."
57. Ms. Lemmon also told Rachel on numerous occasions that she would not be able to
progress in her career with her responsibilities as a wife and mother.
58. During a conversation about children in March 2013, Ms. Lemmon made
disparaging comments about breastfeeding, indicating that it was unnecessary because, "we do not
live in a third world country like Africa."

#55 was always evident when I was at MVW. We noticed that during her interviewing for the upcoming year as there was yet another huge turnover. Many would joke that the unsuspecting young women should be warned to run and flee.
#58...business as usual as comments such as these were made with little to no effort of restraint. In fact, she would laugh afterward as if she had just told the best joke in the world.

It's interesting that an AP is suing a principal.

Looks like the AP bounced around from Mantua to Bailey's to Camelot all within four years. Wonder if that says something about her ability to work with others.

I would question the inability of ML in retaining staff from year to year before assuming the AP bounced around on her own. From the court document, she was asked to leave Baileys (suggested if you will) and then requests for other spots were denied.

, she also was forced to file her claims with the EEOC on November 1, 2013.
112. On November 20, 2013, Rachel met with FCPS Department of Human Resources
and explained her claims in detail.
113. Human Resources stated that Rachel was an exemplary employee, with no
disciplinary recordand that she had the ability to progress far in her careerat FCPS.
114. During this meeting human resources stated thatthey were willing to transfer Rachel
and that Mr. Tyson, Assistant Superintendent, was willing to give her "whatever she wanted" to
make the situation "go away."
115. This was despite the fact that human resources stated that Mr. Tyson did not read
the facts ofthe complaint.

I don't have a dog in this fight, but Bailey's teachers overall seem to think highly of the school leadership and that Bailey's is a good place to work, according to the latest survey results. Notably, that survey was completed before Bailey's had the additional building, when working conditions were less than optimal.

Such deep attention to detail is consistent with Tyson's brief and undistinguished tenure as Kilmer's principal.

Seriously what are these schools thinking when the hire and promote leaders?

So much of it is about butt kissing and bad politics when people who would've been awesome in those roles are turned away.

So this type of fall out is what you get.

She was just contact person at Bailey's for Mantua parents interested in Bailey's arts/immersion programs.

I had a child at Bailey's also, and I didn't think she was awesome. I guess it depends your personal experience with her.

Ditto. Every interaction I ever had with that particular AP was negative. I find Ms. Lemmon to be a highly effective administrator. I'd be very disappointed if these accusations are true.

People aren't perfect, and sometimes their imperfections collide. Easier to sue a principal for sticking her foot in her mouth occasionally than to sue an AP for being incompetent.
