Bought a townhouse in Clarendon in 2002 at 27. Sold it at the top of the market and sat on the gain until the market came down a lot. At 35 live in a SFH new construction in Arlington.

35 and 36, sfh in close-in ss. We owned a Th. first out further in Moco but wanted a cute cape cod in a better neighborhood. We are very happy here and plan on staying, but hope to own a small vacation home eventually. We have friends who have bought 700,000 homes in their early 30's but they have family $ and/or connections for great jobs in family companies

4000sq in the District? Kind of obscene.

It's a 50s' split, not a McMansion.

Both 36. Rowhouse on Capitol Hill we bought when we were 28. Love living in the city with short commutes. Could easily afford a much bigger house in NW or suburbs but have decided to stay where we are and buy a weekend house on the shore instead.

bought a million dollar colonial in NW DC at 32 and 35. BUT we came from a much cheaper area and lived very frugally for years---saved up a $450K down payment.

We bought our first home, a single family home, in San Diego when I was 23 and DH was 28. San Diego is a fairly comparable housing market to the DC area.

We moved to Northern VA when I was 31 and DH was 36 and bought a single family home in the suburbs. That's where we live now (at age 36 and 41).

Live in NWDC - near Foxhall Road. Bought 5 bedroom, older, classic [1920s], home for $1.35 mil, about 5 years ago, in mid-30s. I truly love our house, its our 2nd and I am happy to live here forever. We sold 1st house in DC for more than twice what we paid for it in 1999. Hate to say this, I really do, but there are tons of families around us who live in 2 to 4 million $ homes and are in their lates 20s and early 30s. Many have some sort of inheritance or family money, others have high-paying jobs as lawyers/lobbists/CEOs/money managers, some have both. Its depressing if you compared yourself and your "things" to others. Don't start down that road - no good will come of it.

30 BOUGHT TH LAST YEAR FOR 163K. 2 kids

Grew up in 6000sqft home on 5acres. Awful experience. Even if I had the money I'd never get anything like that.
