FCPS HS Boundary

We are considering buying a property in the Lake Braddock School District but The property is next to the boundary line between LB and Robinson School District. We are trying to get our DD in the AP program and thus are considering this property. Robinson, being IB, doesn’t suit her. Has anyone experienced such changes in the past?

Thanks in Advance.

Historically, Fairfax county hasn’t changed boundaries that frequently except for necessary one offs, but this school board has recently made noise about doing a country-wide study and possible redistricting, so it may happen in the next couple of years.

That said, probably the best public facing document to look to is the most recent proposed 2025-2029 FCPS CIP document. Page 101 (107 of 318) has the five year projections for each of those schools. Take the projections with a huge grain of salt, but if they are accurate it seems more likely that Robinson would be redistricted to Lake Braddock rather than the other way around. But that border doesn’t seem too likely to change based on numbers alone.

That said, who knows what the board has planned. In my opinion, it’s getting riskier to buy in Fairfax County especially if you are targeting a particular school. If you have your heart set on Lake Braddock, I agree with the PP, the closer to the school you can buy, the better.

Also, any idea about Chantily and Westfield boundaries? These two schools are like Night and day.
That is a risk everyone takes, buying a house never guarantees school boundaries never change.

Maybe but the programs and courses offered at high schools vary so much now that they ought to have a very compelling reason to change a boundary. People who specifically moved into an AP district for that program should not be forced into an IB school.

They both have a lot of room, so rezoning between the two is very unlikely to happen.

AP vs. IB is a huge difference. Nothing “virtually interchangeable” about that.

It never happens the way the pro rezoning people think it will happen.

The parents of Fox Mill kids would love to have a chat with you. There are people who bought in Fox Mill wanting AP and were switched to SLHS and IB. Yes, it was a while back but it can happen. Either you stay in the house and try to place into AP or you suck it up and move.

Riiight....

Did you read the "other than AP vs IB" part of the statement?

Decide if you want one or the other.

The rest of the stuff, such as student achievement, demographics, teacher quality, activities, socioeconomic, safety, sports, size, capacity, even the buildings and campus age/structures, are essentially the same or virtually identical.

Since when haven't people paid attention to school boundaries when looking at houses in NoVa? It's spring buying season so expect more posters bringing up boundaries, especially with several members of the new school board calling for a county-wide boundary review.

And sheeeeeee's back!! Please quote these school board members, with citations.

It's because the school board is quietly starting to attempt to reboundary the whole county for socioeconomic balance. They had a non-recorded meeting about it last month.

DP. Please cite your source, thanks.

It feels like they are coming from the same poster.

+1
It would be so hilarious if the one person who keeps inventing this non-issue is suddenly redistricted to a less desirable school. Oops!
