What are your biggest grievances with the school?

Oh come on now. You’re just asking for trouble. I think everyone knows.

I genuinely have no idea.

It's a beautiful school that was recently renovated. I bet the folks at McLean, Annandale and Woodson would love to have such a nice facility.

If you search this forum you’ll find some discussions of gang members at the school. I have no clue about the veracity of those claims, but figured it was worth mentioning.

Why spread gossip of you have zero idea whether it’s true? I heard there’s an AP teacher at Langley who will gives girls an A if they show him a good time in the janitors closet. I have no clue about the veracity of those claims, but figured it was worth mentioning

Say what you want but Herndon AP scores are higher than FCPS average for most (if not all ) subjects and in the top five for most of stem AP classes.

I am a teacher and just looked at the AP workbook report on the internal reporting platform (EDSL) which is available to all FCPS staff. You can compare AP scores across schools (distributions, averages, etc). I don’t think they post it for public to see though.

Have to correct my own post. Turned out, I did make a mistake when I scrolled through the data. But I went back and looked at it more careful. Herndon’s AP scores from last year are in the top 5 for seven AP subjects including stem and non-stem (calculus, physics 1, Stats, HUG, music theory, to name few). And the rest of subjects are all over - some above the average and others below , just like many other schools. But most definitely Herndon is not such a bad school for good students as some posters here make it out to be..

DP, as a professional data analyst I would definitely need to see more information. for example, how many students are taking the AP exam at the schools on average? What is the percentage of students taking the class that actually take the AP test per high school?

The AP participation rates at Herndon are lower for just about every ethnicity than at many other AP schools.

So if the point is that the kids who make it to AP courses at Herndon often do well, great point to make, but others may ask what’s happening in the pyramid that makes kids less likely to take those more challenging courses.
