WHat are the chances Obama gives feds Christmas Eve off for free and when would it be announced?

Obama is so anti-christmas. Ugh! No "christmas ornaments" or "religious ornaments." Now no christmas eve off. Maybe he's just tiffed his 2-week Hawaii vacay has been delayed and he has to work through Xmas eve.

Bizarre reply. I can and will take off when I want to and take leave, I was just trying to plan and jog my memory. Seems like you don't want feds to get a day off. No idea why- I'm all for everyone having the best morale, bonuses, ample vacation time etc. Public or private. Sounds like we have a hater in the house.

Federal employee here and I agree with the poster you quoted. I dont see how one day can really affect your ability to plan. Just plan on taking leave and make your travel plans. If you end up getting the 24th off then you can dont record leave when you submit your time records for that pay period.

Another fed, and this is not how leave works in my office. If you submit for leave, the leave is debited when your leave slip is processed and not credited back if a day off is announced later. What we enter in our time records has no effect on the official leave calculations.

I to am a Federal Employee for MANY MANY years and if you put in leave in advance and end up getting the day off as a holiday, they have to by Federal Law credit back that day. For example: If you putj in advance to take off 12/24/2012 and the President announces it a holiday, your agency CAN NOT count it as leave. Payroll and leave is not processed til the last day of the pay period so if your agecy is processing immediately and not crediting leave back with an order of the President.....someone is in trouble big time.

Do you know anything about how the governement works? The President can not just give a FREE day to the federal employees WITHOUT the mass majority of congress agreeing. The majority of the time, it's the republican's that won't agree to have the day off for us little people.

That's not true. He could do it by executive order. Not that I think he should or that we, as federal employees, are owed an extra paid vacation day.

Look folks, Christmas Eve is not a federal holiday. If you think it should be, write your Congressional representatives. But until then, be happy with your early dismissal (OR JUST TAKE LEAVE) and stop acting so entitled.

The President wouldn't give us a day off even though it would save lots of dollars. People do not understand that bringing in people for a day costs a lot in building power, gas, lots of energy. He knows most do not understand that and would be afraid that the people would be pissed.

Why do people keep repeating this nonsense? Do you really think a day's salary for the entire federal workforce is cheaper than lights and HVAC? What reputable source do you have for this idea?

I figure I'm giving up a day off to help Obama keep the pressure on Congress to cut a good fiscal cliff deal. (Before or after we go over the cliff.) No point giving the tea partiers ammunition to whine about how the federal government wants everyone else except itself to make sacrifices.

I think the first PP above is confused between whole days and partial days. If the President issues an executive order giving civil servants the day off, then leave is credited back as the 2nd PP above says. However, if either the President or an agency grant a partial day "early dismissal", then that time is not credited back to the employee unless they actually worked 4 hours on the day. If you had already put in a leave request for 8 hours, then you are still required to use 8 hours of leave despite the early dismissal.

OPM is in Hawaii for their Christmas Party. (Sorry, I could not resist.) 20 year Federal worker here that has never done travel on the government dime. I am just so happy to have Monday off.
