Accused of AI usage. Anyway to prove /disprove?

Anonymous
Junior’s teacher said dc “made unfortunate decision to use AI” for writing assignment.

DC insists did not use.

How can one determine the truth?

I copied & pasted the text into google but nothing came up.

OP, I would nicely ask the teacher to explain how they came to this conclusion. The fact that your child is denying it doesn't mean they didn't do it, but I would expect the teacher to have solid evidence before making an accusation like this.

Check his browser history?

Sorry, I'm more inclined to believe his teacher. AI usage is rampant, whether because kids are lazy and think they can get away with it or because otherwise motivated kids get behind the eight ball and panic. At this point AI is so formulaic, it's pretty easy to recognize.

Run your kid's text through Zero ChatGPT.

Does your kid have notes or drafts saved?

The kid is a junior. Academic dishonesty will ruin their chances of high school. I would tell her to prove it or stop slandering my child.

lol @ slandering your child
get a grip

One clue could be the writing style is completely different than any other essay handed in.

Show drafts, notes, and outlines leading to the finished product.

That is a very serious accusation. NP.

demand evidence and tell your kid to knock it off.

Have your child walk you through their writing process, without the writing assignment in hand. If they did it themselves they can easily show you some of their resources and notes they used without looking at the finished product.

If they are using some kind of software tool to detect, they are pretty bad at detecting AI usage and give a lot of false positives. I will say at my masters program, the professors have essentially just started asking us what prompts we use if we use AI for any significant portion of a paper.
