Mirena IUD and severe cramping anyone?

Anonymous
I had just put my mirena IUD in about 12 hours again and I am DYINGGGGGG from the worst cramp pains !!!!!!!! The insertion was terrible , I almost passed out . Now that I'm trying to fall asleep at night , it's almost impossible , with these cramps waking me up . The pain is so bad . But i did a lot of research and it's supposed to get better after some time but I'm not sure if it's even worth it

The best advise I ever received from my gynecologist was that, "if you research enough online about anything- it will scare the crap out of you". This forum is basically that, just remember that the main reason people leave comments is because they have had a negative experience.

I got my Mirena IUD put in about 3 weeks ago.. I have not had a kid and the insertion was hands down the worst pain in 15 seconds of my life. I had pretty bad cramping after, but I did manage to run 3 miles about an hour after insertion. I am a cop, so my life style is highly active, i have had a few spouts of bad cramping here and there but for the most part I can tough through it.

Everyone's experiences are different, and the pain will subside. Do your research before hand and decide if going through the cramping phases is worth it for you.

I love mine so far.

I'm a 31 year old, less than 1 month into the copper implant. The side effects after insertion sucked bad for the remainder of the day, took the next day off work although I could've pushed through and gone if I had to.
The first week, sex caused cramps, there was a lot of discharge throughout the days, then no discharge but then I bled like it was like the last day of my period every day. I do olympic lifting and the nights after I lifted, cramps would wake me up at night. Now I have moderate cramp attacks throughout the day every day. I'm about a week out from my next period so I'm not sure if it's more that or a continuing after effect of lifting. I had never typically had cramps prior to my period beginning. Midol seems to help best and I keep a heating pad next to my bed for when I need it. My plan is to not freak out about it, wait it out and see my doctor in a month for a check up. As long as I experience less and less cramping over time, and hopefully less bleeding, I'm good to go.

31 here also, never had children nor will I ever. Got my Mirena implanted beginning of February, and I still have contraction-like cramps on and off. Even though I still get pretty awful cramps that pain killers don't alleviate, getting an IUD was by far one of the best decisions I've made.

I had to get it for medical reasons and due to the fact that I'd have a heavy period for over 4 months at a time. I was sick, anemic, and in poor health. IUD has pretty much stopped the bleeding, though I will spot off an on throughout still. Dr said it can take up to 9 months for things to regulate and be completely normal and for someone who has had 4 month periods, that is nothing.

Still, those cramps though. Ouch, ouch, OUCH!

(IUD is in perfect place, so I'm not dying. Also, insertion for me was a breeze!)

I have had the Mirena for about 2 and a 1/2 years. I first got it because my periods were light but lasting for 13 days. I was told that it would take my bleeding away then. It has not. I spot for over a week then have an extreme heavy flow with clots for about another week and top it off with a few more days of spotting. The longest I go without bleeding has been 13 days. I also get severe cramping. I have seen my gynocologist about this and she wanted me to have an ablation done and have another IUD put back in. My benefits do not cover this yet. I am seeing here this week. I just want it removed.

I had my Mirena inserted about 6 months ago. I had light bleeding for about 45 days afterwards which is very normal and I had mild cramps almost daily for those 45 days as well. Since then my periods have become very light. I am not sexually active (virgin) but was having a lot of heavy bleeding that was interfering in my life. 6 months in my period is almost non existent. My cramps came sharply and quickly. they don't tend to last long but are a little more intense then they were before I had the IUD put in. They are more intense in the sense that the pain is sharp and stabbing and last for a minute or two. before the IUD I would cramp all day and the pain would be dull and achy and would travel down my legs and up my back. I'll take what I am experiencing now.

I had the Mirena inserted back in May of 2016 I don't get a period anymore but my cramps are intense and almost to the point I can't walk I'm possibly getting it removed tomorrow but it is so far the best birth control in my opinion I am 17 now I've been on several pills but other then the cramps I'm fine

I need help! I have been on this for 15 months. I have HORRIBLE cramping daily. I mean I am almost never not in pain. I kept reading it will go away, it will go away. I haven't had a period since about 1 month after I got it but this is insane. Anyone had the cramps last this long?

Today marks one month since I had my mirena placed. I'm 25, never had kids but want to someday, just not now. I consider myself to have a fairly high pain tolerance. I walked around with a fractured pelvis for two days after a riding accident because I was afraid to tell my mom for the fear she wouldn't let me ride horses anymore. Anyway, let me tell you, the initial insertion and several hours following were nearly debilitating. It literally felt like someone was shocking my insides with a taser when they measured my uterus, and then again when they placed it. I remember just staring at the ceiling and seeing stars, praying it would be over soon. I actually whimpered out loud a couple of times, and the cramps that immediately followed insertion as I lay on the table gave me a sudden urge to poop. I thought for sure I would, right then and there. It was awful. I remember almost passing out walking out to my car, and then I sat there contemplating whether I should go back into the office and seek help or just drive my 5 minute commute home despite the fact I was writhing in pain and broken out in a drenched sweat. Once I got home, it was all I could do to walk inside and flop into my bed. The pain was so awful I was actually in tears, and extremely nauseated. The cramps gave me the worst sensation like I had to poop, but I couldn't. I laid there in a fetal position for probably five hours when the pain subsided just enough to finally get up and take aleve and get some water. Since then, I still have days here and there where the cramps are nearly unbearable, but luckily I've been home during those instances and can relax with a heating pad. I've found that the worst of the contraction like cramps are at night, but for the most part they only last a couple of hours when they happen and then I feel significantly better. I've had many days of spotting consisting of brown discharge, but no real period like I used to before. I am totally okay with waiting out the 6 months that my OB suggested because I realize this is a foreign body and adjustment takes time. Good luck to you all and hang in there!

I had mirena for 5 years. The first go around was great. Loved it. But when the 5 years passed and it was time to replace it. My god. I have been cramping SO MUCH. It's almost every other day. What can we do to stop this!? Is taking it out really the only option?? Cause my quality of life has literally gone down dramatically since I got it replaced. I can't take it Much more. But I'm trying to hold.on.
Taking it out will be the last resort but it's closely coming to that. And that depresses me even more

I've been having the same thing! Did you ever figure out what it was?

It felt like my stomach was in a constant contraction with cramps on top of that. I was doubled over in pain and nothing seemed to help - not Advil, Tylenol, or a heating pad. They seem to be getting better but are still bothersome enough to slow me down.

I know cramping can be a side-effect of but has anyone else had bad cramps a month or so after insertion?
