I am writing to let you know about the 2014 National Trademark Expo. The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) will host the Expo on Friday, October 17, from 10 am to 5 pm, and Saturday, October 18, from 10 am to 4 pm, at the USPTO’s headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia. The Expo is a free, family-friendly event designed to educate the public about trademarks which includes: • Educational workshops and activities for children and adults • Numerous exhibits featuring trademarks • Displays comparing counterfeit goods with authentic goods • Costumed characters and inflatables featuring trademarks • Trademark Activity Guides • Small giveaways featuring trademarks At children’s workshops, there will be, games, quizzes, and fun and informative presentations about what trademarks are, why trademarks matter, and what it means to “register” a trademark. Adult seminars include Trademarks 101, Counterfeiting and Piracy – Why Buy “Legit”?, and Trademark Basics: What Every Small Business Should Know. The workshops and seminars will run once an hour on Friday and Saturday. Field trips are welcome! Takoma Attachment Parenting August Hike

We will meet at Burnt Mills West Park & Northwest Branch Trail, 10701 Columbia Pike Silver Spring, MD 20901. We'll hike along the northwest branch of the Anacostia River. The parking lot is across Route 29 and slightly south of the Trader Joe's shopping center. The lot is behind a brick building. Once you are behind the building you will see a 'waterfall' and you'll know you're in the right place. We'll meet in the field beside the dam. The hike will be cancelled only in the event of severe weather. If this occurs, an update will be emailed out to the TAP listserv and posted on the website.
