Does rate seem very, very low for a live-in? RSS feed

Ask yourself this question honestly would you want this position for this pay? What can spmeone really do with only $225 dollars. For me to be at your beck and call and housekeeper. To me this only covers my phone bill. Plus I couldn't built any savings. Let me tell you this if this is your way of trying to afford a nanny just because you gave a spare room in your home and dont want to pay alot then you decide you want a live out nanny, your going about it all wrong. No one will stay long and you will become a nanny hopper.

If I had the time, I'd track her down and report her for her illegal activity.

Would love to see this go down in the news.

While the position is underpaying and technically illegal, if you're going to go on a crusade, please report the illegal nannies and families who employ them first.

I don't know about you, but I'm not on a crusade. It just seems pretty stupid for parents to blatantly advertise a job for wages below minimum wage. Are they looking to get sued?

What would you sue them for?! There's nothing illegal about advertising the job. I'd like to see you try to find a lawyer who would sue them for advertising a job below minimum wage. If you don't like it don't take the job! If you can't find a better one (there are plenty out there) then maybe you are the problem.

Just for the record, I think the MB posting this job has no clue about hiring a decent nanny and should be called out on it but I'm sick of people threatening to sue left and right over every little thing. Not EVERYTHING is a lawsuit.

Just to be clear. OP is someone who saw this ad on Care.com and posted it here for discussion. This isn't MB looking for advice.

Seems like you're just trying to stir up debate - which is fine I guess, but this isn't a genuine request for feedback, this is designed to provoke discussion.

Therefore, not worth my time (other than wanting to clarify this for everyone getting all worked up.)

Ridiculously low, especially with the "shared bathroom" issue. The potential employer might see that her offer is unreasonable once she starts screening people willing to work for what she is offering.

That's a pretty huge phone bill you have! You should switch carriers/plans. No reason you should be paying over $70/month.

Are you the person who continually posts here about ads you don't like? If so, please stop. There is no point.

We post the ads so MBs will see them and will stop arguing that ridiculous low ball offers and crazy expectations don't exist. You all like to pretend that nannies are just entitled and bitter for no reason, and that people aren't actually out there mistreating nannies regularly. It happens ALL THE TIME and we are angry for a reason. Most of us have been burned in some way or another in ways that you just don't see in the corporate world.

Please DO keep posting those illegal ads
on sittercity and care.com.
They need to get exposed for the trash
that they are.
Thank you for taking the time to do it.

There are plenty of MBs on this forum who are not represented in these ads. Just as there are plenty of qualified, competent nannies who are not reflected in the idiotic applications we get when we list a job.

You're not doing some public service in reposting these - I think we can all agree there are fools everywhere. You're just using these as opportunities to vent and/or stir up pointless debate.

If any "nanny" was beating, oh "spanking", her charges, we nannies, would ALL want it exposed and reported. That's what any upright person wants, regardless of your profession, don't you think?

That's an absurd analogy.

1 - DCUM is not an authority to which abuse would be reported in the event of a child being harmed.

2 - A ridiculous job ad does not constitute a reportable offense.
