Exactly.

Or what if your job found out you had depression - could they fire you because they feel you could harm Co workers, clients, make rash decisions that effect the company.

I'm not saying you have depression but if the shoe was on the other foot how would you feel.

Also if your children have sleep overs at friends homes - how will you know those parents aren't on anything? Or someone doing car pool? Coaching your kids sport? Driving the school bus?

If and that's a big if because this medication could be used for a handful of things, your nanny is depressed at leased she's mature enough to get help. A lot of people ignore it and don't get any help.

Parent does not equal nanny. It doesn't matter, I regret this question already because people take it the wrong way. We as parents are ALWAYS concerned for our children's wellbeing, maybe I'm being "mama bear" but when you read the papers about nanny abuse, ect...it makes one worry.

Really what about the crazy mom who drowned her kids or the other who drove them into a lake - but she got out of the car first.,

Fine simple anyone - and that is ANYONE caregivers, parents, family members, friends who take any anti depression meds are not allowed near children!!! Let's start a petition! Caregivers fired. Kids taken away from homes (oh I hope the social workers don't take meds. This could get tricky but it will all work out).

Btw if you fire her and get a new nanny are you going to ask if she's depressed I'm the interview (can she ask you????!!)
What if she becomes depressed DURING employment? Are you going to give weekly drug checks?

I'm a first-time mom, so maybe I'm being overprotective, but I think I should ask her the details. I'm a bit uneasy with the thought of someone with depression around small children.

Then you better keep 50% of the population away from your kid! Do you know how many people are on anti-depressants? Do you know how many moms and dads are on anti-depressants? Do you know how many daycare providers are on anti-depressants?

I, personally, did take Zoloft as a teen. I also thought after a few months what if my doctor is giving me "sugar" pills to make me think I am "better".
So I have up the prescription and started taking Sam-E and rose hips. Both found in the vitamin areas. Well Sam-E wasn't than it was a bit harder to find.

OP if you found those bottles on your nannys counter would you question it or be like well she's into taking vitamins good for her?

OP has no life.

OP you need to quit work and stay home with your own kid if you are this overprotective. I think you are the one who sounds mentally unstable.

If any of you nannies get illegal questions asked, be polite, but be sure to report them the very next day. These people need to be held accountable for their illegal behavior, and then it will stop.

OP, let me be sure I understand your point. You "found" a bottle of prescription meds in your nanny's bathroom, and looked at it closely enough to determine what the med was and who it was prescribed for.

You don't KNOW why your nanny takes celexa, and you don't really care. You have decided she is depressed, and therefore dangerous, and now you want to let her go.

Guess what, OP? The people who are depressed and NOT seeking help or medicated are the ones who might do something dangerous. Your nanny has meds. That means she has at least attempted to seek help. That mean she is likely functioning pretty well.

Has she seemed ill in any way? Is she not going out with your kids as usual? Is she not doing her usual good job? If so, then you need to consider whether she is currently able to do the job you hired her to do. If all is well, then leave this alone.

(Remember how people have said the NY nanny was visibly ill and "off"? Very few people can be that mentally ill and NOT show signs of their distress.)

Your thinking is ass-backwards.

I'm on Prozac for anxiety and my bosses know. And they don't care. Why would you? It means she's doing the smart thing and taking care of herself instead of just breaking down into a depression.

OP, what if you find out your nanny has an inhaler? Will you fire her for having asthma? Because, if she has an asthma attack while watching your children that would be horrible. And if she's overweight, that's an absolute no go as well because you don't want somebody to have a heart attack on the clock!

You'd be better off hiring only people you can verify have absolutely no health problems, and give them quarterly check ups to make sure they stay healthy.

Or just grow up and watch your kids yourself.

PP is right. You had better survey every parent in your child's class and every parent on your kid's soccer team. If they have ever been treated for any type of mental illness, they are totally unsafe and should not be allowed within a 50 ft radius of your widdle snowflake.

There was a mom looking for a nanny on this forum, asking if you took any prescription meds. I decided she had boundary problems, and passed over her. Was that even legal??

Good points. Every long and short term health issue carries risk factors. And when you've got an illness you take meds to prevent the risks of your illness from affecting your everyday life. OPs nanny is taking preventative and likely also post care in her health. She's respinsible enough to do so, and I think it shows her judgment is above that of many others!
