If you had guaranteed hrs it doesn’t matter they still pay you and that doesn’t come out of your PTO
What does your contract say?

I was with a family for 10 years and never really took vacation, but usually one or two days off for the year.
In my contract I am supposed to have 5 days seek leave and 10 days paid vacation. And if I don’t take or used the the 10 days, I would be paid for it
However since the family travelled a lot I would usually get 6 weeks of paid time off.
I think my question is I will be leaving the family in August and was wondering should I ask them to pay me for the past 10 years of vacation that I never took or should I consider the fact that I got 6 weeks paid time off when they travel even though the time off was always on their schedule and not mind.
Thanks

Yes, having several available babysitters that you trust would be the ideal.

You used to use daycare and aftercare. Would any of the teachers there be able to sit? Do you know any other families with nannies or sitters?

I'm sure you would have mentioned this if it was an option, but why not the child's other parent? Are they an option?
I do have family or close friends who could help out sometimes, but I need a backup. I agree that a nanny would t be interested in 10-15 hrs a week, which is why I am wondering whether the solution is to pay for 30 hours… My biggest concern is the regular overnight travel and having a backup. Is it just a matter of establishing a relationship with several babysitters who would be willing to do occasional overnights? If so, suggestions for finding people? (Until now, I have just utilized daycare and aftercare and occasional non-overnight babysitters, with family helping for 2-3x year work travel, but I’m just not sure that will be sufficient with upcoming demands.)
Is the afternoon care for only the next 10-11 months, or just the traveling?

You might not be able to find someone for both, or either tbh. For the afternoon care, can you utilize an after school program? Most people wouldn't be excited by only 10-15 hours. That isn't enough to pay bills and it's very hard to find a morning only shift.

Travel: how much notice do you get? Do you have family or close friends who could help out?
Single parent. For about the next 10-11 months, my job will require regular travel a couple of times a month. I am trying to figure out the best way to have childcare for a young elementary school aged child squared away for overnight trips. When I am in town (I.e. the vast majority of the time), I’d only need 10-15 hours a week of regular childcare, basically, aftercare pickup and a few hours on weekends. But I’m trying to figure out the best way to have someone reliable that I could depend on for overnight care if I have to travel out of town for a couple of days on short notice. Anyone employ a nanny/babysitter on such terms? If so, how did you locate them? Other suggestions/recommendations?
Hi all,

After two wonderful years with our nanny our little one is starting daycare in the fall, creating an opening in our nanny share. She has 10+ years of experience and amazing references (first and foremost from us). The other family in the share is also reliable, friendly, and easy to get along with. The nanny share is currently in Meridian Hill, but all parties are open to discussing alternate locations and arrangements. Feel free to reach out with any questions, and I'll be happy to put you in touch.

The lawyer is stating that the current practices of advertising that aupairs are screened by the company and not the independent contractors in their own countries violates the consumer protection act in maryland. I can only state what is being told to me. I hired a lawyer because I don't want to deal with this whole thing any more.

We have a separate issue which we are dealing with. If someone has time/effort/is a lawyer already and wants to give input, that's great.

For those worried that it will somehow end the program, if host families are being hurt and it truly is deceptive practices, why would you want it to continue? I would think you would want the advertising and program to be honest.

Exactly.
You mean cooking for the children or for you?
