Don't know which post you're referring to, but I did say I hoped that wasn't the only reason that poster married him. It seems like you just want to make a fuss about nothing. Find yourself something better.

This is what you said:

"Funny how one poster said she shares her bedroom with her husband to save money. I hope that's not the only reason she married him! "

That poster said nothing of the sort, you made it up. This is what she said:

"Plenty of 30- and 40-year olds share bedrooms with their husbands and boyfriends, thus saving money on housing and utilities." She didn't say they are doing it to save money. She pointed out a very obvious fact that two married people have only one housing bill.

Also, the "it has been pointed out" has been pointed out by you. Even in academic circle, you can cite yourself for a limited number of times before you begin to look silly.

Your problem is that you can't even imagine living on $15/hr, much less offer a plausible snapshot of a monthly budget.

YOUR problem is that you make assumptions about me based on nothing but your own ignorance. But I'll break it down for you.

My first job out of grad school, I made $32K. I was 28 at the time.

A year later, got a raise to $36K.

Another year later, another raise to $40K.

Then two years on a part-time job of $18/month and evening hostessing.

Then two years in an international development firm at $42K for two years.

So I know all there is to know about making do on $40K a year. I don't need to imagine it. And I was single.
Yeah, but that was in 1952.

No, 2001 as a starting point. Well, don't feel so bad. You probably won't really feel the pinch until you're up to an HHI of 250k-that's when most folks around here really start whining. These folks living on 40k a year have it easy.

We all had to learn to budget when we made $40k/ year. We believe you can do it, too! Good luck!

No one asked anyone to do their budget for them. You are not reading clearly. I did ask what might a 15/hr monthly budget look like, as I marvel at the ability to support one's self on that in the DC area. For instance, is it enough not to have to share your bedroom?

Funny how one poster said she shares her bedroom with her husband to save money. I hope that's not the only reason she married him!

Actually, fool, I was mocking you. No one cares that you are demanding what a budget would look like because all of us real adults know that our budgets are our own responsibility. Our employers are not our parents...yet, your question absolutely demands that employers act like parents and budget for their nannies.

Stop acting like a ten year old. If you can't possibly imagine living on $15/hr, then don't. Look for another job. One whose market rates command more than $15/hr.

I earn far more than 15 and I love my profession, thanks. I've been generously rewarded in more ways than I could ever count.

Oh shut up. Neurolinguistics tells us that most people find it near impossible to learn a new language, particularly one this different from her native tongue, as an adult. Congrats to you for being the exception but there's no need to be an ass about it.

I have a family member who mastered seven languages in his adulthood. To each his own. Each person has his own talents. Remember?

PP, I don't know who you are as I haven't gone back to reread this thread, but I just spent two years living in Boston on $19,000 a year (it was an AmeriCorps service position) and I did not share a bedroom.

It can be done.

Congrats?

That doesn't make someone who finds it difficult or even impossible "lazy," it makes them typical.
