The $15 per hour nanny RSS feed

She is amazing, and really loves our kid.

You are underpaying her and are proud?

I am wondering how they do it.

$15/hr is a babysitter.

Yikes, I could never work for $15/hr. Think about that after taxes.

I don't know why this thread keeps coming up. For those who think $15/hr is enough for a nanny, just try it. Good luck keeping someone around long-term.

Reviving this thread for the recent poster who quotes care.com stating that nanny hourly rates in Chevy Chase are 15 per hour on average.

Most of us know care.com is full of bs.

Nannies need to make a living like everybody else. We pay rent and eat food and buy gas. $15 an hour today is simply not enough to live on unless your nanny is commuting every day from Alabama.

I would not hire someone who only wanted $25/hr. This screams incompetence.

What do you think is appropriate for an outstanding professional nanny?

I don’t think so. Lots of undocumented Nannie’s are wonderful and extremely competent and will work for $25 an hour (under the table).

Twice that:. $30/hr for one child. An additional $10/hr for each additional child, irrespective of whether they are in school because the nanny is responsible for all children after school, sick days, closure for bad weather. So for 3 kids, $50/hr and $75 OT.

I am not a nanny but this is a fair price for all the qualities you require a nanny to have. If you want excellence, pay for it.

If you cannot afford this, or are too cheap, then put your kids in day care.

I would never pay under the table. This ultimately cheats the nanny and, if you get caught, huge consequences.

PP who posted above. Apologies for error in posting as I meant $15/hr.

For parents who settle for bargain immigrant labor, we get what we pay for, just like in the rest of America. We think it's such a deal, until the child can't speak age-appropriate English, or has other problems down the road.

OK, Karen. I was raised by limited Englsh speakers but guess what, I went to school and earned a degree from Harvard and am glad I am not an English Only speaker who is out of touch with the rest of the globe

Wow. You must be a big troll. Professional and very qualified nannies are getting paid the market rate $25 on the books. And I can say the same the same happens with Nannies who don't have a status. They are very well qualified and very experienced too. They are getting the same $25 off the books if they ask for it and if they are the right fit for the family who really like her.
