People continue to claim that consent is given automatically but that is not how consent operates. Consent must be given in writing or on a recording. That way no one can later claim the family to be secretly recording audio since they will have PROOF of consent. Without proving the other party consented needs to be shown or the homeowners can be sued in court for not following the law. |
Crickets, of course. |
You do it quickly and there is no problem. No employer would have an issue with the quick appointment call. We ALL know the phone excesses we are talking about. And they are unacceptable. |
| Don't be silly, pp. No one here is talking about what any particular employer might have a problem with. The problem is if a nanny can't make a personal call (to her physician's office, for example) during the course of her 10-12 hour day. |
Actually, I am salaried and expected to manage my own time, but realistically meetings regularly book up between 10am-3pm period and there is no time to step out for lunch. I also travel for work so there are many weeks where Monday to Thursday I am with my coworkers from 8am-9pm every day (as we share commutes and mealtimes). Some people at my company, if on a hectic project, are stuck in the same room with their bosses and coworkers until midnight on a regular basis. We can step into a different room or something to make personal calls if needed, though |
As said, no office denies you the option of a personal 30 or 60 minute lunch break, as a matter of policy. Employers may NOT wire spy cameras all over the nannies work space without first asking the nanny for permission. Period. |
Wrong. It's legal in all 50 states to record video without permission. In fact many offices have video recording their employees as well. As to the original question. OP, you can't really do anything about it. I worked in a house for almost a year in California before finding out the cameras were recording sound. The laws currently on the books were created to protect against wiretapping and are out of date regarding all the technology we have now, especially when cameras are part of someone's home security system. |

Since you were recorded (audio) w/out knowing, your employers not only broke the law.... But they violated your privacy. I would have sued them. You would have had a strong case to do so too. |
| OMG, this thread is over!! Let it die. |
Agree. |
Do you have anger issues??! If this thread truly bothers you, then stop clicking on it. Period. It only has four pages. I have seen threads with 16-17 pages. Please be nicer. |
No. Let this inane thread die. |
