I can't believe all these entitled MBs believe that their "precious" children need eyes on them every single second. They don't. And people with office jobs text all the time.

Yes, I know. "If you want an office job then go get one. You're a nanny so take care of our kids". I can watch your kids, text infrequently, and still do a great job. Just like someone with an office job can text and still do a great job.

It's amazing the rationalizations sub-par nannies come up with to excuse unprofessional behavior. Unless you are really stupid, you know the issue is excessive phone use of any kind, not an occasional text here and there. I'm a nanny and all the nannies with their cell phones glued to their ears while working make ME look bad. Stop it. You want to be on your phone all day, get a job talking on the phone, not caring for someone else's children.

I agree that excessive phone use is terrible. I'm talking to nannies and MBs on here who say nannies should NEVER look at their phone, not once during the day, and absolutely no texts throughout the day.

Who gives a fuck about what any of you think. Those people complaining are prentencious mothers who care more about their image and status of having a nanny, to show off to the world, than actually looking after their own children. You mothers are quick to pass blame if something goes wrong with your own children, mainly because you are too afraid to accept the feeling of guilt, due to the fact you are unable to look after your own children without help. If a nanny wants to use their phone, they have every right. A iob is for living, it is not their life. Quit your pathetic trolling because I am sure whilst you sit on these forums writing from your mobile phone or ipad, that your husband brought because you don't work, your children are being cared for someone better than yourself.

You are very immature and 100% wrong. Welcome to the adult world, PP, where your employer can make any legal request of you that they want. If your employers says no texting or using your cell phone while working (barring a child emergency) then you cannot use your cell phone at work. Period.

OP here - these were all toddlers who do need constant supervision when out of the house. The nannies should have been engaged in listening to the librarian to set an example to their charges and act interested in the book being read. They texted for the entire 35 minute story time so they were not texting a response quickly. All the mothers were listening and engaged - I was the only nanny who was not texting during this "class". If you don't think this makes nannies look bad, you are mistaken.

Perhaps they (and you) should learn the difference between a nanny and a sitter.

I think for a lot of people the definition of the word "urgent" is subjective. Or a lot of people just don't know what it means. Your friend sending over some insane gossip or commenting on a pic of an acquaintance's new cat isn't urgently in need of response.
