Hi everyone!
I’m a nanny, working for the same family for 2.5 years. The mom is about to give birth to her second child in less than 4 weeks.
Currently I make $26/ hour. Yesterday I got a great job offer $35/ hpur. I love my current family but I don’t know how to let them know that I got a better job offer. Especially I feel so bad because the mom is about to give birth and I truly love them. Please give me some good advice how to let them know

Just tell them. Give them a few weeks notice if you can.

Tell them asap. Congrats you have to do what’s best for you

While giving notice is never an easy thing to do OP, you have to look out for yourself because no one else will.

Congrats on your new job offer!
I would let my employer know stat…..(or at least after you get your next paycheck.)
Reason being is that the majority of families tend to take it personally when their Nannie’s give notice & most of them let their Nannie’s go immediately afterward.

Hopefully your family will be more respectful.
Timing sucks here for sure > but you have to do what is best for yourself.
Besides after your MB has her baby she likely will be on maternity leave so likely will not need a nanny for awhile anyway.

Thank you for everyone for the nice responses!

Did this offer come out of the clear blue sky? Or have you been looking for a job?

If you were looking for a job, and the reason is that you're unsatisfied with your pay, had you asked for a raise and been told no?

If you've been looking for a job for more money, and you never asked for a raise, I think this is a pretty crappy thing to do to someone who's 36 weeks pregnant. Why didn't you just ask them for a raise??

If it came out of the clear blue sky, you say "I know the timing is awful here, but an old family friend is moving to town and just offered me a huge salary to be her nanny. I need to take this job, so unfortunately, I'll no longer be able to work for you. I can stay on until <date>. I've loved working with you and Larla, and I'll miss her so much." And be prepared for things to be VERY chilly between now and your last day.

If you asked for a raise and were told no, they you have nothing to apologize for "I have some news - I've accepted a new position, and so my last day as your nanny will be <date>. I'll miss Larla, and I wish you all the best with the new baby." And congrats on a great new salary!

This is a big pay difference. Don't do this drama. Just say I'm sorry to tell you this and its bad timing, but I accepted another job starting XXX date. If they ask way say it was a big pay raise that you weren't comfortable asking for. Offer to babysit occassionally if you have time to help transition but if mom is taking maternity leave its good timing as she can look/interview during maternity leave.
