I posted a job on care.com and have had a ton of nannies apply and have noticed a lot of former au pairs. Are they visa overstays or do a lot of them get married etc? I want everything to be above board so was just curious |
They’re visa overstayers illegal and want to be paid cash |
I’m sure it varies. My husband was a former international student but now he’s an American citizen. Some could be students now. Maybe they married an American. Maybe they are illegal. I had a Mexican friend who overstayed. |
They're overstaying their visa illegally and need to be paid under the table |
It’s not always this. You can’t make a blanket statement based on this. |
If they are in the US on a student visa they are restricted in how many hours they can work. |
Got married or want to be paid under the table . |
Duh that’s why they want babysitting jobs. They don’t pay taxes. I never did in college and none of the families wanted to bother with taxes either for PT work. |
OP didn't say she was only looking for part time. And around here, a lot of employers need to pay legally. |
OP. It is a full-time position and both want to and need to pay legally due to my work. Thanks for answering my question! |
They came here with little work experience other than child care. They’re young and looking for similar work to what they’re used.
Some may have overstayed, some may be married. Some may be going thru the green card process. Every situation will be different. |
Each AP has chosen a different path whether student visa, work visa if someone sponsored or overstayed. Regardless of what they decide to do after AP program (which is the closets it gets to legalized human trafficking)I’m sure its way better quality of life for them. 70%of host families that hired APs are cheap and extremely demanding, their excuse is: we feed them, we board them, we send them to school…in exchange of childcare(slavery) |
+1 Former AP here that was overworked for hardly any $ and ate crap food mostly frozen food for 14 months until i broke lose!! Luckily i had already a network of friends who helped me find a job while applying for student visa. |
Include in your care.com add that you ate only accepting candidates that can be paid legally on the books.
Then when they message you, include that in your reply. “One thing I like to double check: we must pay on the books. Are you legally able to work full time in the US?” |
The reason why former APs don’t use care.com and cheap a$$ families unable to pay legally on the books as they use these women as SLAVES. |
