Nannies,
I found out the family is expecting; very early prob about 6-8 weeks. I started w/them right when their first baby was born. Now son is about 13 months. Seen a lot of mom’s am sickness and food cravings but won’t share the news with me. I’ve always being told by former employers when they found out about their pregnancy and I’m not sure why my current employer won’t say anything to me, is this normal in today’s time or is the sensitiveness of the first trimester?? TIA |
A lot of people wait to tell after the first trimester. I wouldn’t take it to heart . |
They’re not obligated to tell you. They may not have even told their own family yet. |
OP, why is it even a concern to you? |
That’s not the question |

She doesn’t owe you any news. She will tell you when she feels comfortable sharing.
Many people don’t share during the first trimester. |
The subject wasn’t about owing news, CTFU! Some women go through difficulties the first trimester and miscarriages could occur |
Agreed with 1st trimester being difficult. As a nanny i think I’d want to know just like the OP since things can change in the schedule so totally understand the concern |
Since you know anyway. That’s a question to ask them. |
I’m a pregnant nanny who is 11 weeks. I feel bad not disclosing it but what can you do. Think about it in the reverse OP. |
So what,! Working as a nanny is different for m working in an office and not telling. The nanny has to put up with MB's morning sickness, crazy hormones, etc. OP might not want to take care of as new born with older child. |
Huge difference because your boss will likely fire you because you have no job security. |
+2 I wouldn’t take it personally OP. While I think it is wrong to keep such a big announcement from you (considering how close you work alongside their child in their home!), many people tend to keep it to themselves until after the first trimester in case something could go wrong w/the pregnancy. All of my NFs have always told me as soon as they knew - probably because I worked so closely in their personal environment - which I have always appreciated. When if (God forbid?) something happened to your MomBoss & she needed immediate medical attention?? Wouldn’t she want you to know she was expecting in case she could not verbally inform the paramedics herself? |
