nanny job after AP RSS feed

We have a special needs child and I find it hard to find a really good caretaker locally. I've heard of people finding great APs with special needs experience, but both spouse and I are foreigners and cannot participate in AP program. However, I can sponsor a nanny visa (g5), and am looking for someone who is at the end of their AP program, has done really well with their family and would like to continue working in the US as a nanny (legally, with visa, contract, benefits). Our wish list: mature, hard working, kind and responsible, other requirements: can drive well, lives out, and has experience with special needs preschoolers (HF ASD). Spanish is a plus.

Where are you hearing people can find great APs with special needs experience easily? That is simply untrue.

From what I gather, sponsoring is expensive. Why not hire a qualified nanny?

You can only have an au pair if you are a US citizen? What do you mean you’re foreigners?
Most au pairs coming off the program who stay will want to be live in, have a car etc, If you have these things to offer I don’t understand why you can’t find someone.

For the U.S. Au Pair program, Host Families must be U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents. They must be fluent in spoken English.

If she can offer a G5, she's on a G1-4 visa.

OP, G5 must be applied for at an embassy or consulate *in their home country.*

In a similar position. Wondering if Au Pairs are allowed to stay in the US after their 2 year contract? I’m seeing posts on babysitting sites from Au Pairs who are looking for new roles after their contract is finished. How does this work with Visas?

There are many Nannie’s including myself with the experience/qualifications you’re asking for. I think the issue you’re having is you don’t want to pay special needs rates starting at 35$ per hour. If your trying to take the budget route you may want to look into school and overlap you and your husband’s schedule or cut back on your hours at work to care for your child.

If they are looking for live in positions, most likely they are staying illegally. If looking for 'nanny' positions, it means they went husband hunting during their au pair year and went the quickie marriage route to get a green card.

Very very limited ways for an AP to stay after her 2 years. Get married. Find a company to sponsor some kind of work visa. But none involve continuing as a nanny for the HF.

Many try to convert to student visa, but even that is illegal. They can't be a student and work for a family. And exchanging room/board with (wink) some child care is still illegal.

Your options are very slim; also live-out nanny is a different payment plan and would not take anything less than $35 hourly for a child with disabilities. When you say hard working? Assuming you need someone that is going to be on her feet the entire shift for the child, that doesn’t exist! Enroll your child in a school and hire after school care (still when you mention disability be aware that are very few caregivers that would take on the job) best of luck

I'm willing to pay! Please let me know if you are looking for a part time after school position.
