After 6 years with a family and getting a substantial bonus each year…received nothing this year. RSS feed

Question…I’ve been a nanny to the same family for over 6 years. They have always been very generous with an annual bonus. I received $1500 the first year I started ( worked for 5 months that year) and have received $2500 for the last 5 years. They have always given me this just before Thanksgiving. This year….nothing. Nothing has been said to me and it certainly isn’t my place to ask. I’m confused as nothing has changed and they thank me everyday for the days work. I guess I’m just a little surprised and confused…any advice or should I just forget about it as a bonus is just that…a bonus.

It’s only December second. Maybe they will still give you one.

I wouldn't ask anything yet and wait until Christmas week; your last day at work before holliday. I always got my bonus my last day of work for Holliday; along with my last week on payment. They seem to be a very generous family with you. But if for some reason they would decide not to give you all the big amount you have gotten in the past years and decide to give you less; I would be very grateful too. Even though this years for some other circumstances wouldn't them allow them to give me this year a bonus; I would ask for anything, if all year I felt very appreciated by them, valued, respected and treated pretty well. And the most important thing if they have gave me a happy and great environment to work, being excellent employers.

I know this Christmas bonuses it's not something that a Family really has to give; but I have always been very grateful and lucky since all my former families in all my years as a Nanny; have gave me a great bonus; without me asking for anything.

So no worries, if they have seen such a great employers to do you, I'm guessing they will give you one for Christmas/New year eve. Whatever amount you get, be alwsys grateful about it. Good luck.

I would wait until Jan 2 and then if you didn't get one I'd ask for a meeting to see if there was anything wrong with your performance this year and to check in for the upcoming year. Spin it as a constructive conversation.

If OP doesn't receiveva bonus by Mid,-Drc
, She should start looking for a new gig because, obviously. These people no longer value her. If you can't afford a minimum Christmas bonus of a week's salary then you cannot afford a nanny.

A lot of people don’t know that a week salary is standard. Yes it’s appreciated but not mandatory

Of course they know but are too cheap.

I usually get my bonus last week of December; just stay positive and if you don’t get it, try not to be upset as this is not about performance IMO. In 2021 I didn’t received anything, no biggie.

In my small business every employee receives an end-of-year bonus of one week 's pay nitnam employee whose performance is stellar gets a lot more than one week. So. Yes, a bonus is about performance.

Maybe they are waiting for something financial -- they wait for their bonus, they sell their stocks for it, they wait for rent check on an investment property.... it may not be anything but they are waiting until they have that money to pay yours.

Not necessarily; bonus isn’t an obligation, you give as you wish. I’m hoping she gets it, tho.

She hasn't come back so it looks like she got stiffed. I hope she finds a new job with employers whom value her.
