Helping Nanny with Expenses & Nanny Rate RSS feed

Hi - if you have had a long-term nanny (10+ years), do you help your nanny/provide benefits beyond typical vacation/leave? E.g., help with preschool for nanny kids? Oher?
What is the going rate for a long term nanny? Two kids, very part-time. Want to make sure we are still market.

Help with preschool for nanny kids? What?! NO!

We provide the nanny with a monthly mass transit pass, health insurance, regular benefits. We are NOT paying the nanny's personal expenses.

We pay for her health, dental, and vision insurance. We also have paid for her transportation (personal car).

Do you provide a car to use while on the job or is it hers to keep forever?

Most people max out on raises within 2-4 years. At that time, they start looking at other incentives to offer instead. That's one that they may offer, depending on how much it is.

However, if you're very PT, it sounds like it's more a matter of making sure you have someone to cover the split shift. Are you in a position to just do what you need to do to keep a solid, stable person?

Rates have risen dramatically in the last year. So even if you think you are close to market rate, you probably aren’t unless you’ve given $20/hour in raises over her time with you.

You could offer health insurance assistance if she needs it. If you need her help and value her, yes, offering to pay for her children to attend preschool would be amazing.

If she is willing to take on family assistant duties would you be willing to have her work more hours? That might solve the issue, along with a rate bump.

Pay for her kids to go to school? This board has gotten delusional. That sounds like the family who says they bought a condo for their former nanny/housekeeper.

It is impossible to give a rate - you've provided minimal information.
-What area?
-What hours?
-Are they set hours or do they change?
-What other benefits do you provide at this time?
-What are her responsibilities?

Some church preschools are fairly cheap, and I can certainly see why a family might pay for 1-2 nanny kids to attend their kids’ school, because all the kids could be picked up simultaneously.
