What happened to your ap room when done with program? RSS feed

We finished with the program after 6 years and curious as to what you did with your ap room after the program.
Pre-ap is was where we had our exercise equipment. We sold all of it and made it a bedroom (which it really is).

It is quickly becoming a storage room now....we have extra guest bedrooms so more just wondering if it is normal that you use it as storage or what.
It is glorious to have the room and bath back.

Not sure I need exercise equipment again (running/active with kids). Just curious as to others experienced!

It’s funny, I was just going to say that we plan to turn ours into an exercise room when we are done. It’s in the basement and we currently have equipment in our own bedroom. Do you do yoga/meditate? It’s nice to have a dedicated space for that.

We will turn ours into an exercise room. I don't think there is anything wrong with using the extra room as storage. If you don't have any other use for it, but you have use for extra storage, just do it!

We will rent out as an accessory dwelling.

My 15 year old tried to claim it (in basement; own bathroom; walk out!). I said no.

Then my 13 yo daughter just moved her extra stuff into it. It is a novelty to them at this point.

My two girls will stop sharing a room and can each have their own spaces!!! We are a long way from that at those point though!

Our AuPair space is a 1500sqft basement suite. We kept it as a bedroom and put guests in there. This Christmas my inlaws argued (in a lighthearted way) who would get to stay down there. We also have a home gym down there and I LOVE having my own private bathroom to shower and get ready in in the morning.

Our kids are now tweens/teens and when they have friends over and have sleep overs they take over the space. Its a novelty since they were not allowed down there unless using the gym when we had AuPairs.

We aren't done yet, but her room, which is on the top of our townhouse by itself with a bath, will likely become our office/guest room. Right now our 2 younger kids share a room and oldest has her own room on the floor below, and then the guest room is on the floor below that next to the master. Middle kid is starting to ask for her own room, so we'll likely move one of the kids into the guest room in a year or so, and not have an official guest room until we're done with au pairs.

How big are your houses?! Our AP room was our guest room before they arrived and is a guest room now that they're all gone.

We converted ours to a home office in COVID. We might get another AP now so might need to convert it back.

6br/6 FB. 2 kids
Our ap room is storage now. May convert it to a room play VR in. Clear it out with just a pc and plenty of room for the kids not to run into walls or furniture with headsets on.

Our house is stupidly big but not in a good way.. Old, old house with no storage space and everything seems to be in need of repair. We have given the AP the attic space with two very nicely sized rooms. I have dreams of the day we get the rooms back because it is the only place in the house with a closet bigger than a telephone booth.

4 bedroom house/3 kids. 4th bedroom will go to the youngest kid, who is only 2 now. A guest room was never important to us when we moved to this house. Our basement level is almost the full footprint of the house and has a full bath, but we use it as a large play room rather than giving it to an au pair because it's more useful that way with 3 young kids.

So our au pair does stuff like sleepovers at the 6 bedroom au pair friend's house. We're perfectly fine with not being a hangout house.
