Nannies in DC (especially Capitol Hill area) - are you working on Wednesday? |
Most employers won’t have the day before ff, so most nannies will be working. |
I’m asking if anyone is concern about the safety that day ... |
Everyone should stay home that day. |
Most parents might not have the day off but I know a lot of nannies are off that day or at least will be working a half day before everything gets crazy. |
Any nannies working on or around Capitol Hill should be discussing this with their employers.
I can't see how it's an issue for anyone else. |
I disagree. I live in the suburbs, but I travelled down for Obama's inauguration, and transportation all over the region was impacted. Trains and busses were packed. Traffic was at a standstill on major thoroughfares. Everyone was friendly and peaceful, but it still was difficult traveling. Add in that the threat of violence, and I don't think it's an OK thing to ask. If someone is a single parent who absolutely has to go to work that day, or a couple where both parents do, such as an ER doc, or a police officer, then I think they should invite the nanny to spend the night before and after, unless she has a safe space within walking distance. Otherwise, I think the nanny should be given the day off, with pay. -- parent who has a nanny. |
Nope I’m off |
Per OPM - This holiday is designated as "Inauguration Day" in section 6103(c) of title 5 of the United States Code, which is the law that specifies holidays for Federal employees. Federal employees in the Washington, DC area are entitled to a holiday on the day a President is inaugurated, January 20 for each fourth year after 1965. Though other institutions such as state and local governments and private businesses may use other names, it is our policy to always refer to holidays by the names designated in the law.
If you did your contract right and follow a government schedule you should be off. |
I wish this were true. But in Los Angeles, while the idiots were storming the Capitol, a huge group of trump loving lowlifes gathered in downtown LA and beat up a Black woman just walking home from work. All nannies, especially those if color, should stay home. Parents can handle their kids for one day. |
And if the parents are working that day, and the nanny drives (so no issues w/ public transportation), and you all live in the 'burbs, do you all still think the nanny should have the day off? |
Same burbs? If the parents live in Potomac, and the nanny lives in Gaithersburg, and there's no beltway involved? Yeah, I think that's safe. |
I’ll be working but I’ve already informed the families that I am considering leaving early, especially if it starts to get crazy— I’m out the door. There will be no outside time (walks) that day either. |
Early will be the worst time. If there's going to be trouble, it will be brewing before or during the swearing in at noon. Once you're there, you're better off staying until late, although it's likely there will be a curfew. |
I think if it’s trouble at all, it will be before, during and after— I’m so sick of this. |
